5.0 out of 5 stars It's Beginning to Feel a Lot Like Winter..., November 10, 2008
This review is from: The Ski Country Cookbook (Hardcover)
As the cold weather begins to overtake the northeast my time outside drastically reduces, and I can usually be found curled up in a chair watching a movie or reading a good book. When the temps dip below zero, there is nothing quite as satisfying as a fabulous hearty meal on a chilly winter evening. If you're looking for new recipes that fit into this category then The Ski Country Cookbook by Barbara Scott-Goodman could become your go-to manual.

Images of majestic mountains and powdery slopes are interspersed amongst luscious plates of stick-to-your-ribs dishes. Stews, pastas, chili, and breads -- they're compiled here in all their high carb glory. Just the way I like it! When the snow starts to fall, and we all know that it will eventually, I think you'll definitely want to set down a platter of red wine-braised short ribs on your dining room table. Or maybe you'd rather whip up a batch of warm cheddar and chive biscuits for some unexpected house guests? Personally, I'm looking forward to writing my Christmas list in the company of a big bowl of lemon-scented olives.

2.0 out of 5 stars High-Altitude Miss, June 27, 2011

This book is okay. My major gripe is that there are no high-altitude directions for the baked goods. Correct me if I'm wrong, but most ski destinations are at high altitude. I live in Colorado and the cakes failed miserably without my high-altitude corrections. The savory dishes were yummy, but I think the lack of high-altitude directions is a huge miss.

5.0 out of 5 stars Could make me love winter., December 5, 2008
This review is from: The Ski Country Cookbook (Hardcover)
I am not a winter person, nor have I ever been on a pair of skis, but the recipes in this book are so cozy that it could make you long for cold weather. Barbara Scott-Goodman's choice of ingredients are interesting without being weird or hard to find. The recipes are pretty simple. The photos make the food look really delicious. Can't wait to get cooking with this one.
