The author covers groomed trail networks, all backcountry trails and well-established circuits venturing above treeline, such as the popular Wapta Icefields traverse. At the end of the book he suggests a number of multi-day adventures below treeline.

About the Author

Chic Scott has skied most of the trails in the Canadian Rockies. A member of The Association of Canadian Mountain Guides, and a nordic ski instructor, he is perhaps best known for his lengthy glacier expeditions such as the Jasper to Lake Louise High Level Ski Traverse and the Rogers Pass to Bugaboos Ski Traverse. Since 1967 he has completed nine major ski traverses, four of them as a guide.

During an expedition to the Canadian Rockies, our trails research crew picked up the recent edition of SKI TRAILS by Chris Scott. We found this guidebook to be invaluable for route planning. Mr. Scott's detailed trail notes and local insights were most helpful.

It is pretty much the only book on the particular subject. Trail descriptions are accurate in the couple of instances we've tested it, but they are generally terse and vague. Also, there are no useable trail maps and for certain regions there are no high-level, base maps either, so no maps at all.

I would use the book to get trip ideas but i would not venture to the backcountry based only on the information contained in here. This is in contrast to Alan Kane's somewhat similar "Scrambles in the Rockies", which we have used (in summer) as the sole source for many, many successful scrambles.
