5.0 out of 5 stars What a little powerful tool
I use it to put my ikea closet together... powerful enough to do the job. It is not for heavy duty but just right around the house. Love it !

This review is from: Skil iXO3 2346-05 3.6-Volt Li-Ion Cordless Driver (Tools & Home Improvement)
I boosted my rating to three because this device drives screws quite nicely. Nice power, nice weight, nice headlight. Don't think that the LED forward/reverse arrows are a bit of silliness: they are critical. Read on . . .

The problem is that the forward reverse "switch" falls right where either your thumb or forefinger will rest when ever you pick up the driver or are in the midst of driving a screw. The action on this switch is quite loose so that it is easily jarred away from what you are anticipating and/or need. It will change direction because of that looseness when you lay the driver down to reposition your work. Drives me nuts. I've had three other folks with different sized hands try this driver and they had the same frustration.

Second "huh?" for the driver - look at the driver and then look at the right hand drive attachment. Yes, it's a "U" drive. Before you get excited about being the first on the block with a "U" drive, give it a try and report back on how your wrist muscles and tendons are doing in physical therapy!

2.0 out of 5 stars A let down, January 29, 2010
This review is from: Skil iXO3 2346-05 3.6-Volt Li-Ion Cordless Driver (Tools & Home Improvement)
This screwdriver does not have torque settings. Torque settings is what keeps you from overtorquing and stripping out your screws. Also, if you need to run screws after screws very quickly, you'll be severely disappointed with this screwdriver. Spend just a tad more and get the Hitachi DB3DL. It has torque settings, runs a lot faster, and comes w/ 2 rechargeable batteries. So, if one battery goes down, you can slip in the other one and continue working with no down time.

This is a great little power screwdriver/drill. It has enough power for most small-medium projects. The battery life is really good. The price is great compared to really expensive 90 degree power drills and this one makes a great alternative if you are going to use it mostly for fasteners.

5.0 out of 5 stars Light, Compact, Easy to Use -- Great Value, December 14, 2009
This review is from: Skil iXO3 2346-05 3.6-Volt Li-Ion Cordless Driver (Tools & Home Improvement)
My 18 volt DeWalt drill, which is great, cannot match this tiny, light driver for ease of use in tight spaces. 3.6 volts is more than adequate for most household driving tasks. Beware, it will round out screw heads if one is not careful. Because it has no clutch it will simply keep turning until you let your finger off the trigger. At this price I would not expect a clutch. I was actually pleasantly surprised at the torque this driver delivers. The right angle attachment makes this model the one to get over the Skil iXO without it. The attachment is sturdy, easy to attach, and works very well.

I have not attempted to drill with this thing. However, its torquey enough that I am sure it would be adequate for light duty jobs. But there are much better options for lightweight drills. To me, this is a specialized driver just for routine driving of screws and bolts around the house.

The light is nice. However, it certainly is not necessary. The scant selection of bits Skil includes with the iXO3 are low quality and will not last long. However, plenty of good quality bits are available at reasonable prices. The cheap bits should not be a deal breaker. All in all a nice tool.

BTW, I actually bought this for my 6 year old son who has been begging for a driver. It fits his small hand and he can handle the 3.6 volts of power. Of course, he lets me borrow it whenever I need it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very well built & works perfectly!!, December 7, 2009

I just finished using this power tool. Although its easy to push the direction control switch while using it, but I was careful and really never had an issue with it, like some other reviewer who made a huge hue and cry about it. As a matter of fact unless you have hands like a giant, even then I cannot imagine how someone could keep pushing the direction button all the time. And the question of discomfort does not arise.

Its made by the same people who make Bosch tools. Skil was acquired by them some years ago.

Seriously, for the money its the best, and one need not spend any more for simple home jobs. I would recommend it to everyone. I am so glad I bought this and didn't end up paying more for the Bosch, which was much bigger, heavier and more expensive as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great screwdriver for the catch all drawer, May 17, 2009
By
This review is from: Skil iXO3 2346-05 3.6-Volt Li-Ion Cordless Driver (Tools & Home Improvement)
This is great to leave in the catch all(junk drawer)drawers to have handy for little projects. And it will be handy w/o charging for up to 18 months due to lith ion technology.Low speed (200rpm) is a plus(less chance of cam out/more control at slower speed) when driving slot and philips screws. Right angle is useful for drill/driving in drawer etc. Very good power for only 3.6 volts. Geared for torque at only 200rpm.Bought for my wife and my daughter's band director as xmass gifts.

I enjoy using this power mini-driver. I have used it to help me assemble curtain brackets, office tables, etc. Honestly, I prefer using this over a hand screwdriver. This thing helps my jobs go faster. Heed some of the negative reviews written they have some truth behind them (ie. lack of a clutch means possible overtorquing and stripping screws, lack of an extra rechargeable battery...the batt on this thing is internal). Overall, based on my experiences I'm giving this a great review because it hasn't let me down yet. I would most likely purchase an upgraded product should the Skil fail in the future.
