5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful Drill / Driver
I bought this for a small remodeling project that involved driving 50 3" stud screws (which I did not want to do by hand). I have a small B&D electric screwdriver which is pretty good for assembling furniture, but it proved useless this time.

2.0 out of 5 stars Another one bites the dust!!!!
Well, as someone else mentioned, I bought this Skil driver at Lowe's for about $50. A great bargain, I thought. Well, I used it for a little over 2 years and now it died. It was not used very hard. While it worked, it worked very well, and I would have given it a very good rating. Then one day while I was driving a few small screws, it just stopped. I think we have a...

I bought this for a small remodeling project that involved driving 50 3" stud screws (which I did not want to do by hand). I have a small B&D electric screwdriver which is pretty good for assembling furniture, but it proved useless this time.

This 18V Drill / Driver is amazingly powerful. It drove 3" stud screws straight into solid wood like a knife on butter (with no pilot holes). It's powerful enough that it turns your wrist around once the screw is fully tightened.

It has a built in LED light that shines right on the work area, which I found very useful as some of the driving was done inside cabinets. Also the battery indicator is very helpful. Being the new Li-Ion battery technology, you can't go wrong.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing value, nearly perfect drill !, February 23, 2009
This review is from: Skil 2815-02 18-Volt Lithium Ion Drill/Driver (Tools & Home Improvement)
This cordless drill is incredible. The weight is amazing, about 0.1 pounds less than my old B&D 9.6V drill, yet it feels much more substantial in the hand. The ergonomic design is perfect, feeling incredibly balanced, and with all controls ideally placed. All controls feel high quality, with very positive operation. The LED light is great and really helps illuminate the bit, even in lighted rooms (probably no use outside). The battery charge indicator built in is great. Compared to my old B&D 9.6V, the battery life is amazing. Even though I only typically use it for screwdriving, it seems to last at least 10 times longer. I have been looking for a drill with more power, better battery life, and no extra weight, and this is the one! I also like the little forward/reverse lights on the top to indicate the direction. I like that you can charge the battery without removing it from the drill. You can charge the battery separately, if you want to get a spare.

The only downsides are that it doesn't have a bit holder, as another reviewer mentioned, and there's a slight delay between fully depressing the trigger and starting of the motor. It's not long, about 1/3 second, and you quickly get used to it. The lights do illuminate immediately (LED, battery charge level, and direction). If you just lightly hold the trigger, you can keep these on without actually spinning the bit. Anyone who's used to prefocusing a digital camera will find this completely natural.

The best part of this drill is that I got it on sale at Lowe's for $50! They said the normal price was $60, which already seemed good for lithium ion drill of this quality. But everywhere else it was $100+ (more what you would tend to expect). I was kicking myself for not buying two. Then, I found another one at the same Lowes this week for only $45! This has got to be the best deal going in drill-dom! Even reconditioned units are going for over $90... I don't get it, but thank you, Lowes!

I think we have a problem here, and I guess that's why it is no longer available.

I'll add to those whose drill burned up. Have been using it for a couple months and was actually my favorite drill. But sadly it burned and died while simply drilling a small hole so wasn't overloaded at all.

1.0 out of 5 stars Great Drill design, bad motor, October 22, 2010
This review is from: Skil 2815-02 18-Volt Lithium Ion Drill/Driver (Tools & Home Improvement)
I loved this drill (for the brief time I owned it before it burned up). it was powerful, well balanced, and has a small profile which works great for getting into tight areas. Only problem is the motor burned out way too soon, has to be a manufacturing problem with the motor which is why if you check the Skil Web site, you will no longer find any trace of this product being offered. Too bad.

I purchased this product as refurbished, and I think I got a real bargain. It has performed above my expectations. I am currently involved in a fairly significant remodeling project and have used my Skil 2815-02 drill/driver extensively. So far, I have only had to recharge the battery twice. I am very impressed, and very pleased with my purchase. I would highly recommend this product.

5.0 out of 5 stars very pleased !!, June 16, 2008
This review is from: Skil 2815-02 18-Volt Lithium Ion Drill/Driver (Tools & Home Improvement)
A really nice drill !! Lite and well balanced. Gobs of power. Especially like that you can turn on the work light with a light touch of the trigger before the drill begins to turn. Gotta' love the long lasting lithium battery with the charge indicator. The only negative that I can give this product is the lack of a bit holder, but still a great value !!

Be aware of this drill it will burn up and quite possibly cause a fire. I have used this drill no more than 10 times before it burned up. I would not recommend this product. It is a danger to personal safety as well as property. This is not the first review with a problem of this nature, that says something for the product design, there is fault in either design or manufacture.

after driving 3 small screw it smoked with a strong burning smell. I tossed the packing so I am forced to send it to skill for repair at my expense. good idea but must have been built on a friday in china. I just got a dewalt 18v and it seems great so far, just heavy.cannot recomend this drill.
