Skil Factory-Reconditioned 18V Cordless 4-Tool Combo Kit 2887,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
All the pieces of the combo kit worked really great. The Skil Circular saw was the best as it uses standard 7 1/4 inch blades. For a battery operated device this is great. In terms of value, it great. I wouldn't pay twice as much for the new DeWalt 4-combo 36 volt kit. It's nice, but way too expensive. The only drawback is the flash light. It's a cheap energy sucking incandescent light. Skil should replace it with 10 or more high intensity white LED's. Overall good value.

I have a similar set, only with a jig saw instead of a flashlight. the kit is a good price only 150 i paid, 2 batterys, and 4 tools. the drill works ok, and so does the saw zall.the batteries dont last too long, and the circular saw will eat a battery up in under 10 minutes of use, with a fully charged battery. I do like the battery charge leds on the batterys to give you an idea on the charge level. Overall nice kit, just need a few more batteries to make sure you dont run out mid job
Update-ive been using my set for renovating my house for a about 1 year now. The tools have casual use, not contractor type use. The batteries are very weak and when using the sawzall will dye out from fully charged in about 5 minutes of use. Your run time is very limited with any of the tools other than the drill. seems like a good deal, but it sure sucks to stop mid job to either charge the batteries up or dig out a corded tool. After all why would you have bought the cordless kit in the first place. UPDATE-11/27/09 My batteries are pretty much done. I will charge them and come back a few days later to find the leds on back indicate no charge in the battery. At this point i can spend the cash and buy 2 new batteries or just man up and buy a better quailty set. I would recommend the higher quailty tools, since their bateries are more prone to lasting several years. second update both batteries will not hold a charge and are useless now. save your money by more quailty cordless tools

Great for the price,

I am now into the 2d year of ownership and have used these regularly. I have added the jig saw and Octo sander as well as the 5 3/8 saw. Obviously I like 'em. But understand these are homeowner grade and not for heavy use. The weakest part is the battery. The cost is kept down by supplying lower grade Ni-cads. First thing I learned is that they can NOT be left on charge. Recharge and remove. Skil was gracious about replacing my first set. At that time I also ordered the higher output Ni-Cad....big improvement. Now there are Li-Ion compatible cells but add $130 for two. With the proper batteries you are all set. The drill is the most used tool and is very good, with good balance, grip and most of all a LED light. Every power tool should have this last feature. The sawzall has lots of power (for a battery tool) and on-board blade storage. It is a power hog. Which brings us to the 7 1/2in saw. Uses all your existing blades. Makes smooth powerful and deep cuts...but not many of them. Say 8'of 3/4" ply. Own many batteries, I do. The little Octo palm sander is great. Worst complaint is that the special fitted sandpaper is expensive. The light in these tool sets is not the "crown jewel" but it does rotate and stays in place. Popular Mech. noted a LED bulb usable here, made by Milwaukee. I am trying to get it. The jigsaw uses standard blades with easy change out. Not the best or most versatile jigsaw but I do not have to run a power cord out on the property to make a few cuts. The bag is very handy and useful for transport and storage. We now come to the 5 3/8 saw. Not as capable as the larger one but not a power hog. Use the special narrow kerf blade made for it and use it all day. So buy better batteries, treat them right and be happy.
