I needed a recip for a job and didn't want to pay a lot as my helper has a nice Milwaukee so i bought this at Home Depot. Was I impressed, have used it for over 10 hours on jobsites in everything from steel to plastic and never had a problem. My helper with the nice Milwaukeee ends up using my Skil as it is easier to hold and doesn't vibrate so much. I highly recommend this saw.

5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful, November 23, 2005
This review is from: Skil 9250-01 8 Amp Variable Speed Reciprocating Saw Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
I recently bought this saw and am quite impressed with its power and versatility. It came with three saw blades, two for wood and one for metal. It's easy to handle and the speed dial and on/off switches are not in the least confusing. Sometimes, when working on a project, it's easy to get buttons mixed up and not get to the on/off switch soon enough. They're located in very ergonomically friendly spots which was super for me as a fairly inexperienced tool user. It's lightweight for me too being a female-type person. The vibration level was easy to handle too. There are many blades that can be purchased to do jobs not covered by the blades that came with it. The prices for these looked to vary from $5 to $30 which can increase options for this tool. I felt the price made it accessible for the common person who likes to do their own repairs and renovations while not sacrificing quality in the least. It brings out the inner amazon-worker woman in you. Great tool!

4.0 out of 5 stars I showed it no mercy., September 7, 2009

This review is from: Skil 9250-01 8 Amp Variable Speed Reciprocating Saw Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
I have used this saw for a few years now and like some kind of faithful hound, it just keeps on working no matter how badly I treat it. I've used it to tear down a 50" steel awning, cut firewood, cut muddy roots when digging a trench and planting trees. OK, I always clean it up real nice when I'm done and I run it at the correct speed for what I'm doing, but it works just like it did when it was brand new. The only reason I didn't give it five stars was a minor annoyance with the case. The saw fits nicely into the case and there is extra room for several blades but you have to put a tight bend in the power cord right at the strain relief in order to get the saw to fit. I wish they had built in a little extra notch or something so you wouldn't have to bend the power cord so much. I can see that I'm going to have to replace the power cord eventually due to this tight bend. Other than that, I'm very pleased.

August, 2010 update. I still work this thing like a rented mule and it still works just fine. The issue with the power cord being bent in the carrying case has not been the problem I thought it might become. So far, so good. I still clean it when I'm done and I still make sure I'm using the right blade at the right speed so that may factor into its longevity.
