I have a recently built US version of this saw, . . . production has now been moved to China, so this review may or may not apply. The Chinese version looks the same from the outside.

This saw has great balance. It uses worm drive gearing with an oil box for cooling and lubrication. Accordingly the saw has very high torque and is much quieter than traditional circular saws. The handles are well positioned for easy grip and handling.

The saw is pretty heavy . . . this provides for very smooth cutting and low vibration. Highly recommended for people that want to buy lifetime tools.

This saw is much quieter than other saws I've used. Purchased it to cut some granite, then use on all the other house projects to come. With a $40 diamond wet/dry blade, this saw cut granite easily and precisely without any binding up. Overall I'm very happy with this saw, and the stone pieces it cut. It's on the heavy side, but not bad.

The Skil SHD77 worm drive saw is a powerful brute, and it is heavy enough to prove it, that cuts through even wet, pressure-treated wood with ease. With the right blade this saw cuts clean and true, it did not bog down or burn the wood at any point. Over the past 35 years I have had to buy 7 electric circular saws and all of them are dead (motors burned out, brushes worn and not replaceable, or trigger switches burned out.) I expect this Skil worm drive saw to be around and working as long as I will be. Amazon made the discounted purchase possible and I couldn't be more pleased.

I purchased the saw several months ago and have used it often. It is easy to control, adjusts easily, and is not too heavy. I find it especially useful in cutting sheet stock which can be difficult to manage on a table saw. It has plenty of power to rip 2" oak. I'm very pleased with the tool.

I have been around construction equipment and all types of woodworking equipment my entire life. I have used a worm drive saw a lot in the past, but never owned one, until now. My cicular saw finially gave up, after looking at the market I finially decided of the SHD77. I love this saw for a number of reasons:

#1 IT can be maintained! There is a wide variety of repair parts if the saw goes down and needs repaired (from something as big as the case to as small as a set of new brushes).

#2 It has oil that has to be changed on a regular basis, just like a car the better you maintain the oil the longer it will last.

#3 The sawblade is on the left side of the saw vs the right side of saw like most cicular saws, makes it much easier to keep an eye on the line and keep the saw where it should be.

#4 The saw is very well balanced and easy to use.

The only negative I have, and it has nothing to do with the saw. The picture Amazon is using is an old picture of the Skil saw HD77 not the SHD77 the picture has the handles and trigger in black when Skil has changed the color to gray for the SHD77.

The only thing that is bad about this saw is that I keep getting it ripped off.This will be my third saw. Get reconditioned, best price, just like new.

Great saw, but do NOT buy it from Amazon.

You can buy the same saw at Lowes for the same price. Mine arrived in a huge box without packing and the factory box was crushed and the saw were damaged. The saw blade wrench was loose in the box and it looks like they sold me a returned saw that had already been opened by somebody.
