Where do I even begin??,

Thristin is something else. He sounds like nobody and nobody sounds like him. He has easily one of the strangest flows in Hip-hop. The way he flows makes it seem like his rhyme patterns really don't have a pattern. HIs lyrics are completly off the wall. This isn't the best collection of his material. Some of the songs here are hashed basement made joints. But that isn't so much a bad thing. "I still live with my moms" is HILARIOUS. He rocks over the beat LL used on "Big Ole' Butt" to tell us the story of being old and still living at home with his mom. The lyrics are incredible here, don't sleep! and the song ends with his friend asking him why he's putting his moms business out there, and what will he do if she kicks him out because of it? "I'll go move in with pops!"And who else (well besides maybe Kool Keith) would do a song about having sex with cartoon females. Thirstin does here, it's not one of my favorites, but the content is good for a chuckle. As I was saying before, some of the songs here are cheap sounding, but that add's to his appeal. He can rap over somebody elses track, not caring what he says, and it sounds good. Another amusing thing, the back of the CD shows the police snap shop of his mom and a "RIP" to her. Apparently she was in jail, and he (not here though) recorded a tribute to his mom that seems real touching. Even though he's talking about how she taught him how to blast his first gun and fight and run the streets. Again, only Thirstin would tread these waters. He is at his best when he's freestyling, he has a seamlessly endless supply of punchlines and ill thoughts. And his off beat flow really adds to the impact of his words "move back...think forward.../play catch...with flame throwers" If you dig underground cats, the man who claims to be "27 shades lighter then Westley" is a sure bet.

I've known about Thirstin Howl since he was in the Unsigned Hype feature of the Source back in the late 90's. It was nice to see a Brownsville, Brooklyn artist inject so much humor into his music, rather than embrace an "I'm paid" mentality with his lyrics.
Skilligan's Island is a hot album, but "Polo Rican" alone is worth the price of the CD. The movie Boricua's Bond came out two years before Skilligan's Island dropped, and the use of Polo Rican in the credits had plenty of people wondering who the artist was. It's a hot Spanglish track that has stood the test of time, great production and a funny concept. Skilligans' Island is a great CD to own for Hip Hop heads young and old.

Now I know where to buy from & worry no more. I'd been goin' all over town & to the wrong web sites, coming up with nothing. "Lookin' for stuff in all the wrong places". I thought I would never be able to find Thirstin' Howl the III - Skilligan's Island, his best album. Peace!

Man, this album was slept on, but damn, its a friggin classic. Thirsten's beats are ill, and the fact that he steals commercial Mcees beats and makes iller songs out of them makes him the ILLEST!!! Now, if only he'd start making albums that aren't only 35% new unreleased material, we'd have competition for Kool Keith!

Hilarious remake/diss song of Black Rob's "Whoa", called "Stole" (the same day I got out of jail I STOLE) Makes the beginning of this cd seem like it would be good all the way through, and for the most part, it is. Brooklyn Hard Rock Pt. 1 & 2 are my favorites. And I'm sure most people will enjoy "Dreams of f*cking a cartoon b*tch", although, that just isn't my style. "Watch Deez" features Eminem...but I think his verse is sort of weak. Over all...it's worth the money, so cop it!

Thirstin Howl III takes all the things I like about Ol' Dirty Bastard and adds more mic skills.
I heard him first on the Rawkus 'Soundbombing II' CD, doing the third verse from 'Brooklyn Hard Rock.' He had me hooked with 'All you see are his balls bearing.' While his half-screaming, stream-of-consciousness flow can get a little tiresome - it's tough to listen to the entire CD - there are plenty of hilarious one-liners and solid production. 'I Wanna Watch' is the funniest song about lesbians that I've ever heard, 'Stole' flips Black Rob's 'Whoa' and a couple of other beats into a jokey spin on shoplifting and the lady who keeps repeating 'John, They're Stealing' in a song with the same title cracks me up every time. It's not for everyone, but if you enjoyed ODB's 'Return to the 36 Chambers,' but wanted a little less shouting and a few more clever punchlines, this is for you. |
