2.0 out of 5 stars Very Elementry
The book is not that great for mature reader. It can be effective for a young reader might be in High School or middle school. Very wordy and a lot of examples from sports. It is hard to relate to most of the examples. The material is also dated which might not apply to common work life of today.

He sought out Jonathan Peck to help him prepare them for life beyond basketball. Over the years they developed a plan. Their book, "Skills for Life" is a must read for every person old enough to drive and too young to retire. If you have children or grandchildren you owe it to yourself and them to get his book, read it and pass it on. It should be required reading for every child in the 9th grade.

5.0 out of 5 stars IT SAVED MY LIFE!!!, September 5, 2003
When I began reading this book, I was unemployed and living on a houseboat in dry-dock in Gary, Indiana. After reading the book, I shaved my head and began coaching local youth basketball. I even went so far as to recruit my overweight son to be my assistant.
"Skills for Life" is a transcendental tale of what it means to be a success. Mike Jarvis has been to the mountaintop of the world of success and he has done the world a great service by offering his services as a guide on this fantastic journey.
This book is a must read for anybody who is looking to find the roadmap to success.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is more than a "self-help" book., October 21, 2003

I think you'll agree after reading only a few chapters that this is more than a "self-help" book. It delivers a clear & concise message about the core values of success as well as the more subtle civilities oftentimes forgotten. I have recommended & endorsed this book not only to new hires at our firm but also to more senior colleagues. Coach Jarvis and Mr. Peck should be commended for providing invaluable insight in a timely book that is delightful to read.

(REAL NAME)
Skills for life by Jarvis and Peck is the book that I would strongly recommend to all people. Rating it on a one to ten scale, it will receive a perfect score of ten. This is a great book of lifes lessons written by men who have been through it all. Jarvis and Peck have done a great deal of research to finding the key to great success and happiness physically and mentally. All the formulas that they suggest in the book includes well-done research backed up by statements. There book is like a bible on how to live life to it's fullest. I have already developed great confidence in the researched ideas it contains. Both men are able to illustrate even the most complex ideas and break them down into more understandable phrases. The situations they speak of in this book can relate to practically anyone in this society whether you are rich or poor, happy or not. After reading a portion or just chapters of this book, you most likely will feel more refreshed than when you picked it up. You would be doing yourself a disservice if you did not pick up this book and make your DASH a little better.
