Most Helpful Customer Reviews

3 of 4 people found the following review helpful By Andrew J. Pond on August 9, 2012
Julie Brown is one of the leading clinicians and researchers in the field of treating behaviorally challenging individuals who are coping with the additional stress of developmental disabilities. She works every day with clients in group and individual sessions, while finding time to develop, implement, and evaluate treatment strategies that can be replicated in multiple settings. The Instructor's Guide is a hands-on manual for clinicians, and is useful as a self-help tool for families and individuals. The work is adapted from Marsha Linehan's Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and is approved by her group. Full disclosure: I worked with Julie for several years as a co-leader, and I am now the CEO of the agency where she works [...] Her work is endorsed by many others, though--and the fact that I know the author means that I can write with absolute confidence in her seriousness of purpose, her commitment, and her compassion towards the individuals with whom she works.

I borrowed this book from someone for a while and couldn't wait to get my own copy of it. This is a great book for working with kids who are learning affect education and skills for regulation.

This guide book is one of a kind. The tailoring of the material to suite the population underserved who have developmental diabilities is much needed. The author was able to offer a useful tool to care givers.
