5.0 out of 5 stars Very Good for a Wooden Board
Although foam/glass boards are better, this wooden board was very good. I liked the design and it wasn't too heavy to carry. It seems very durable and just an overall great product.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great board, but not a bargain...
I bought this board for $30 and it worked wonderfully for my first skim-boarding experience. I am 160 pounds but had no trouble skimming on my first try (snowboarding and wakeboarding experience helped, I'm sure). But while I was at the beach, I saw similar size boards for $16 at local beach shops and on the boardwalks (MD and DE area).

I was really disappointed with the board. It wasn't cut evenly on each side, it's no where near symmetrical. There are ridges on the bottom that catch, making it ineffective for sand sliding, and the bottom is only coated in a cheap wood varnish which scratches and flakes away ridiculously easily. I actually had to sand the whole bottom down to get rid of the original coating and ridges, and put two good coats of surfboard resin on it to make it reasonably functional.

I bought it new, and it still came with chips along the edges and a flaking paint job that looks like it was done by a leaking silk screen.

Fork over a few extra bucks and get a nicer board, you'll end up paying more to make this one usable anyway.

I previously owned a woody skimboard that was similar to this and it lasted about 10 days of riding. This board started splitting on the sides after the first couple hours of use. The board still worked well, but it definitely got slower when it waterlogged. I tried it out for about 3 2-hour runs and it's probably halfway to being dead.

If you're just learning to stand up on a board, then this is your board. You can do spins, shove-its and skim pretty well on the beach or on flatland with it.

If you're looking for something that will get you off of the sand and out towards the waves, save up for a nice fiberglass board, which will not only be lighter and more durable, but it will also allow you to start riding waves back in.

If you're a newcomer to the sport or just looking for something to toy around with at the beach this is a great skimboard to start with. Unlike a lot of really cheap skimboards out there this one is decently built and has lasted with us so far through the summer. Awesome for the price.

I was really excited to use this board at the beach but was quickly disappointed 1) by my lack of skill and 2) by the quality of the board. We brought it to the beach and took things slowly but found the surface way too slick to even stay on the board for more than a second. After 20 minutes worth of tries we noticed that the grain down the center of the board had begun to split and we deemed it unsafe for our feet and a potentially killer splinter. We tossed it out that day. A few weeks later we saw an awesome board at TJ Maxx that was wooden as well but completely grippy on one side. For a beginner I would recommend trying something like that out.
