A good starter, but not enough information...,
This review is from: The Skin Cure Diet: Heal Eczema from Inside Out (Paperback)
This is a tiny little book that is a good primer on treating eczema, or more accurately, an overgrowth of Candida Albicans, via diet. It gives good, basic information on implementing a yeast-free diet, along with a helpful section on herbs. What it lacks? Meal plans, adequate recipes, and further information on cleansing. I bought this book, and followed the diet, as well as implemented the suggestions on herbs. However, there is more to tackling Candida albicans, i.e. internal cleansing, than is covered in this book. I purchased "The Coconut Diet" along with this book, and found I used "The Coconut Diet" as much, or more, in treating my eczema and allergies. So if you purchase this book, plan on buying another book on Candida albicans to supplement. Or, you can just purchase "The Coconut Diet", which was as helpful to me as this volume.

One piece of the puzzle,

This book focuses on the fungus aspect of eczema. Most natural health care practitioners will tell you that fungus is always present with eczema. Even the pediatrician we saw told us that fungus was always a problem when eczema was present. So she has a piece of the puzzle, the problem is it is only one piece to a sometimes extremely complex problem. It's like saying that people with eczema have a zinc deficiency. Well of course they do, their skin is blowing through zinc with every break out, but that doesn't necessarily mean a zinc deficiency is the cause, it can sometimes be a symptom.
She was able to greatly reduce her eczema with a strict yeast diet. I agree that a very strict yeast free diet can reduce the symptoms, but that is a very difficult way to live, because every time you cheat, you're back at square one. She explains that she had to resort to topical steroids to finally get rid of the rash. I completely disagree with the use of topical steroids. This simply suppresses the illness, which will often then manifest in a deeper condition, the most frequent which is asthma. Dr. Bernard Jensen in his classic work Chemistry of Man (Man Series, Second Edition) had numerous cases of eczema clear up simply by switching from cow's milk to goat's milk. I've personally seen a case of childhood eczema that was so severe the child had difficulty walking, completely clear up simply by discontinuing cow's milk. So I would start there. We eventually found our cure through homeopathy. While we consulted with a professional homeopath, she just wasn't able to see the case clearly enough. Homeopathy is different than traditional medicine because they don't always use the same remedy for the same condition. It is highly personalized, and you have to find the exact match to your symptoms, overall health, and personality. I eventually ended up enrolling in Homeopathic school myself, and through a series of events was led to the book "The Homeopathic Treatment of Eczema" by Robin Logan. It is in print, but for some reason is not currently available on Amazon. In it he lists 42 different possible remedies for eczema; the trick is to find the best match for your case. I had to read the book in its entirety two times before I figured out which was the best remedy for my son. For us the guiding symptoms were that it was significantly worse on the right side, he's aggressive, bites, kicks, pulls hair, and has red streaks after scratching. It sounds odd I know. But it pointed me to the right remedy. So she has a part of the problem that can help you minimize outbreaks until you find the correct remedy. It just wasn't the complete answer for us.

I got this as an eBook from iUniverse.com, to get it quickly -- this is the type of diet that I think everyone knows instinctively they should follow to get healthy and clear up practically ANY illness, but the difference here is to stick to it long enough (about 6 weeks in the book) to work for as a treatment and cure for skin problems like eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis and acne, which are all so stubborn, just like the candida / yeast infection that seems to be at the root of them. I've had it since childhood and now it's finally 95% cleared (and no more need for Doctors to put me on antibiotics, which, according to this, make it worse in the medium to long run!) But when I try going off the diet, it starts creeping back. First the inflammation, then itching, then the tiny eczema blisters. If you or your child have skin problems, (or even allergies, as this worked on that for me to), please get on the diet and stick with it!!!

Deceptive title - not for all Eczema sufferers,

I believe the title of this book is misleading, perhaps for the marketing purpose, to tap in to the people suffering from eczema.
The author did have eczema, it seems, and rather severe one, but what's different from my case was that she also had "candida overgrowth" or what's usually called yeast infection, on skin. So, her diet focuses so much on "clearing the yeast out of your system." I admit I didn't try her diet, but I didn't want to because I didn't want to get sick from not having enough nutrients due to this very partial diet. (I didn't want to take many supplements because of it.) It may be true, at least to some extent, that "yeast is an interferer" which is not making your eczema go away completely, but I strongly believe that's not the case for many, many people with moderate to severe eczema problem. I also bought "Skin Deep - A Mind/Body Program for Healthy Skin" together, and I don't think I need any other book. I strongly recommend "Skin Deep" than this, unless you suspect you have the yeast infection as part of your problem. By the way, this book is very thin - a little thicker than brochures - 43 pages, including the references, just so that you won't be surprised when you get it.

It works -- like Atkins/South Beach PLUS,

I have to say this does work: I always wondered why my little spots of rash on the insides of my elbows and sometimes wrists would go away when I was on a diet! I tried this with the grapefruit seed extract (which I like about this diet, as it was all natural -- not pushing any product like some of the reviews, and other books) and it really cleared up the hives. Now when I eat something really carb-y or sugary, I know why it comes back! But not as bad as before, and at least now I now what causes it and what to do. Thank you!!!

I found this book very helpful. For quite some time, I've been having facial skin problems like burning hives and whatever dermatitis name my HMO type doctors want to give it. Somewhere in the midst of suffering and getting no solutions other that cortisone creams and anti-histamines from dcotors, I decided to go find my own answers in diet. I quit alcohol. Then sugar. Then cheap carbs, food additives, etc. For the last 6 months I've been on a retraictive diet that also focused on elminating candida. My skin condition has not only improved, but I'm well--healed. Like the author, I searched for and found my own answers. Read the book to discover how the author improved her life long ailments. You too can heal yourself through diet.

I have suffered from eczema all my life. I have always felt like I was alone with my skin problems. I liked the parts where she described the pain she went through as I too have felt the very same way and it helped me feel like there was someone who understood. My only gripe is first it could have used some editing and second, I wish she had written a much longer book to tell more of her life with skin problems as I could relate. All in all it is a good little book.

This book was very informative. I had similar experiences described in the book concerning eczema. Now I have a different way to approach the skin disorder.

After suffering from eczema for many years I had been taught there was nothing I could do for this disease. Learn to live with it. And a few years ago I read a book that said it was "genetic" and due to faulty chromosomes. Well, that isn't true!
Recently, I read "The Ultimate Eczema Cure" by Mark Young. Yong says that eczema is caused by diet. And he tells you how to get cured!! Well, after reading his book and then this one, I am CONVINCED that eczema is caused by diet. Waterford had a really bad case of eczema. Far worse than mine. And with DIET ALONE she got cured. After reading both of these books, I am convinced that while eczema is caused by diet, there is no standard cure for everyone. We must all search out what will cure us as individuals. So do a lot of reading, and experiment with your body. Eventually you will get cured. And no, eczema is NOT a skin disorder. It is a disorder of something going wrong INSIDE your body and not OUTSIDE. The symptom just shows up on your skin. Both Waterford's book and Mark Young's book are well worth your time. My only complaint with this book is that the author should have put in far more receipes. If she had done that I would have given it five stars.

This book is useful to anyone looking for an alternative treatment to eczema. It is a good introduction, but if you are serious about using this to change your lifestyle expect to do a lot more research from other sources.
