Skin Deep,
This review is from: Skin Deep (Paperback)
Fast pacing and a no-nonsense writing style combine with a plot full of twists and turns. If you like your novels fast, lean and packing a punch, this is the book for you. A page turner, hard to put down. Robin Cook has met his match!

This was the first book I read by this author. I'm a huge fan of medical mysteries, so I thought I'd give him a try. As far as the story goes, the book kept me very interested and I finished it in no time. It was a decent plot that kept me going. However, I had a very difficult time getting past all of the grammatical and editorial errors in this book. I don't expect an author to be perfect as far as structure and grammar, but I expect his editor to catch most of these errors. It was almost as if I had received a rough copy of this book before it was widely published.
That being said, I will probably try this author again becuase I do think he wrote an interesting story.

Skin Deep is an exciting medical thriller that never slows down due to the frantic actions of the lead female antagonist. The story, though, belongs to David whose efforts to hide his 'secret" provide constant suspense and surprise. The supporting cast augments the plot with strong characterizations that move the story along. The deliberate fast pace creates an exhilarating thriller that readers are sure to love.

Avid reader,

What a great book. When I read the synopsis for this book, I expected a good read. Instead, I got a fantastic read that kept me up all night. RN-turned novelist Clem, weaves a chilling plot of science unloosed in the hands of the obsessed. With its sympathetic protagonist and a female villian that will make you cringe, Skin Deep is a must read for medical thriller enthusiasts.

Four stars as the book was not as much of a "thriller" as I expected. Easily read and put togheter.Content flows nicely. Certainly well worth what it cost and I will read this author again. Read the book in one night.

Pretty good, BUT.....,

Skin Deep has a very interesting and compelling plot, however the errors in spelling, grammar and punctuation are so frequent and distracting that I could hardly get through it. Mr. Clem, please have your next book edited by someone who knows how. Describing a situation as "nerve racking" demands a red pencil. Also, the author(supposedly a former nurse) should know better than to have a doctor saying to the attending nurse "Give this patient some Demerol." This casual order would never happen in a hospital setting. Anything as potent as Demerol ( a highly controlled narcotic) would need amount, strength, mode of delivery, etc. in the original order, not mentioned casually in a follow-up discussion. In most states it would need a written order, not just a suggestion. That ia just nit-picking, it was the hundreds of misspellings, incorrect punctuation and blatant errors in grammar that really should have been corrected by careful editing before publishing the book.

Bill Clem delivers another page turner. It is a thriller with cutting edge medical science. The idea of growing skin in a test tube, so to speak, is a great idea. I work in a hospital which has a burn unit. It breaks my heart to see some of the patients with their skin grafts. They look like a patchwork quilt sometimes, with skin taken from other parts of their body stitched over parts of their bodies burned away. The Dr Jekyl and Mr Hyde angle in this story is another reason I liked this novel. This work is multifacited and action driven which held my interest to the last page.

A creepy medical thriller that leaves you breathless,
By
This review is from: Skin Deep (Mass Market Paperback)
Though not usually a fan of mystery thrillers, Skin Deep kept my attention the whole way through. You try to beat the main character to solve the mystery and there are many twists and turns along the way. Although it takes some time to build up to the constant mystery solving, once to the end it is well worth the wait. It is very well written and continues to stun you until the very end. The end may be the best part of the book realizing the psyches within people and how delusional some can be. Definitely a novel not to miss. After reading this book, I am a Bill Clem fan and have read another of his works. I highly recommend everyone read this novel, but be sure to keep the lights on, for it will continue to haunt you well into the night.

Fast pace, great plot,
This review is from: Skin Deep (Paperback)
Another fast paced medical thriller by this author. The plot involves a researcher/plastic surgeon who is obsessed with a secret project.
The book draws the readers interest immediately, and leaves them craving more. I have already ordered more of his books as Holiday gifts! |
