Book Description

This concise color atlas contains more than 500 superb color illustrations to help you diagnose skin diseases fast! "Skin Disease: Diagnosis and Treatment" provides a dual-method approach to identifying skin disease: by primary lesion and by body region. Used together, this unique approach helps clinicians narrow the diagnosis by comparing findings from each section, and provides reassurance to the non-specialist diagnostician. More than 250 common diseases are arranged alphabetically, covered in a concise, 2-page format with bulleted text on theleft and color photographs and distribution diagrams on the right. Color tabs direct readers to specific sections.

Editorial Reviews

Review

Doodys Review January 2011 - Weighted Numerical Score: 100 - 5 Stars!

**Description**

This continues to be my all-time favorite, go-to book for a quick refresher on treatment and diagnostic tips as well as to confirm clinical findings by studying the gorgeous color photographs. Most of the major entities that one will encounter are beautifully described. The differential diagnosis is listed.

Treatment and prognosis are succinctly covered. Excellent tips on how to make the correct diagnosis are generously provided. The previous edition was published in 2005.

**Purpose**

It is designed to be a current and accessible reference in diagnosing and treating patients with the more common dermatologic disorders. The authors do a superb job of accomplishing this task.

**Audience**

The audience includes any medical professional who treats patients with skin diseases. This should be a mandatory purchase for medical students and dermatology residents. I recommend it be the first book you read on the subject. It provides an excellent basis for tackling the encyclopedic tomes on dermatology.

**Features**

One of the many strengths of this book is the clinical information shared by the talented authors who have a wealth of experience and knowledge. You will find helpful tidbits that are not in the giant references and they are presented in a most easy to absorb fashion. Tables in the appendix list common medications, tube sizes, and ingredients for quick reference. Topical corticosteroids are listed according to strength and chemical groups.

**Assessment**

This is one of the best color atlases of dermatology. It rivals the Fitzpatrick's Color Atlas and Synopsis of Clinical Dermatology, 6th edition, Wolff and Johnson (McGraw-Hill, 2009)). Reading this is like falling in love again (with dermatology)!

5.0 out of 5 stars perfect for general practice, September 15, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Skin Disease: Diagnosis and Treatment (Paperback)
I am a family resident doing a rotation in dermatology and this is the book i am using. It is simple enough that you don't need an extensive background in derm to understand it, but it is complete enough to provide all the info you need. great pictures, clear explanations (skin/non skin findings, progression of the disease, treatment...) The color coded pictures of usual distribution are incredibly useful!
It is probably not enough for a derm resident, but for a rotation through derm, or for general practice, this is what you need.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to reference, easy to help treat, January 29, 2005
This review is from: Skin Disease: Diagnosis and Treatment (Paperback)
I'm a Physician Assistant student working in a busy military hospital. This book is absolutely wonderful if you're looking for a quick diagnosis and treatment to common skin diseases. It's easy to reference, there are diagrams showing lesion distribution as well as beautiful pictures of common presentations, and an easy-to-reference treatment section. This won't cover everything, and you'll have to use a more comprehensive derm book for "zebras", but on the whole it's an excellent reference book in a general care environment.

Those practitioners looking for a good overview of many dermatological conditions, with up to date treatments have found a pear in this Habib edition. This book stays on my desk or in a room - where I peruse through pictures or show patients pictures of others with their condition. Most dermatological atlas or text are incredibly expensive. The price makes this edition a MUST BUY.
