4.0 out of 5 stars Very good, March 14, 2005
By
This review is from: Skin Diving (Audio CD)
I bought this CD on a whim after listening to a few clips (you can get this one for super-cheap) and was pleasantly surprised. Kind of a trip-hoppy, highly-danceable jazz excursion, Submarine's music is very listenable and is rarely tedious. It has the enthusiasm and percolating creativity of a first release, without getting bogged down in studio trickery. The music is well-performed, intelligent, and often very catchy (think mid-90s Depeche Mode). Plus, the singer has a beautiful voice.

If you like Portishead, Hooverphonic, Frou Frou, or Morcheeba, this CD is worth a listen because it could very well become a staple of your collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing New Band- SUBmarine, April 21, 2001

SkinDiving by SUBmarine is amazing. This band is going places. When I first heard it, I was reminded of Portishead and Poe. So This is Love is one of the best songs (how can you pick one favorite?) but Evergreen has very personal and touching lyrics. The music is fun, vibrant, quirky & the lyrics deep, meaningful, playful. If you want some cool info go to: (web sites). This band is radio friendly and should be spread to the masses, for now, I will enjoy and hope you do too!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Summer Must, June 22, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Skin Diving (Audio CD)
I discovered Submarine while working at my college radio station and fell in love with it. Its rare that a CD comes along and I like every track on the album. Evergreen has to be one of the most beautiful songs I've heard in a long time and Sumbeam is one of my favorites at the moment. I would tell anyone to buy Skindiving, they won't regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sultry, Catchy, and REALLY Good, July 9, 2005

Do yourself a favor and buy this album. It's a mix of sultry vocals and every sound you could imagine from synthesized pop beats to raging electric guitars. The only bad track is "Heartfailure." EVERYTHING else could have been popular singles.

In fact, if you ignore "Heartfailure," the album, from beginning to end (excluding the bonus track "So This is Love,") is simply one of the best ALBUMS I've ever heard.

The best songs on the album in my opinion are:
1) "Out to Lunch"
2) "Blow Me Away"
3) "Sunbeam"
4) "Evergreen"
5) "Way Out West"

I'm so happy I found this album.

Like its so worth it it was worth it when I paid 13 dollars at the market. For fans of South, and other Indie Brit Pop bands as well as fans of mainsteam stuff like Madonna and The Beatles. Its really good

5.0 out of 5 stars WHAT A FIND!!, January 18, 2001
This review is from: Skin Diving (Audio CD)
So I hear a remix of "So this is love" on Channel X Direct TV,and I'll tell you that this album is awesome. I don't know if this band is big or not in (London is quess)? I had a hard time finding any web-site for these guys. They should be big. Although this is my first day having the CD, I believe this will be on of my fav's for 2001. Singer reminds me of the Cardigans singer (Nina)at times... very pretty voice. Submarine is very original(for me at least) Full and melodic. Also a nice variety of sounds.

5.0 out of 5 stars The original Submarine, August 5, 2011
This review is from: Skin Diving (Audio CD)
It's sad that this group didn't stay together and make more records because this album is amazing.
I remember when it first came out and listening to it at the Tower Records listening station.
I was completely infatuated with the arrangement, vocals, and uniqueness of this band.

So now there's a new band out there called "the Submarines" with a singer who's vocals are quite
uncanny in resemblance to Adaesi Ukairo. Hmm, coincidence????

5.0 out of 5 stars gets better and better, June 1, 2001
By
This review is from: Skin Diving (Audio CD)
I first heard "Sunbeam" when I bought my Powerbook. Apple has begun shipping all their new systems with about 600 megs of mp3s, and that happened to be one of them.

Based on that one song, which is quasi-electronic with a good pop feel I picked up the CD at Tower.

I can't get enough of this CD now. Every listen I find something else to love about it - either the electronic feels mixed with the pop hooks, or the fact that it's trip-hoppy but more optimistic.

"Evergreen" is a beautiful song that wistfully recounts the sunny outlook of youth. "4 AM" will be familiar territory to anyone suffering from late-night feelings of desolation from insomnia. "Out to Lunch" and "Way Out West" are extremely catchy, and have me hitting the repeat button on a regular basis.

This is a wonderful CD, and is very easy to listen to extensively without worrying about getting sick of it.
