4.0 out of 5 stars Give it a try.
Being a father of a large family, I have mutliple game systems. 2 xbox's, 2PS2's. The D-skins work on both PS2's and only 1 Xbox.
They also work on all of my DVD players. The 1 Xbox they do not work on is the Oldest one. So, I suspect that they should work on the newer sustems and you my have trouble with the older ones.
My first purchase of these I bought...

1.0 out of 5 stars Un-scientific Testing Demonstrates the Danger of Using Skins, May 30, 2005
This review is from: D Skin 5 Pack (DVD/GAME/CD) (Video Game)
Formerly I gave a glowing review of these d_skins, based upon their performance initially. The DVDs and CDs played well in a DVD player as well as a PC. Having many hard-to-acquire, OOP CDs, naturally I was in favor of a product that promised to protect my favorite music; however....

In time, there appeared rotation marks on the disks covered in d_skins, a pattern I had not seen previously. They differed from random scratches in that they uniformly appeared clockwise to the disks, following the rotation. My $40-plus investment in d_skins came to be questioned.

Having cleaned my disks prior to covering or having covered new disks, I hesitate to believe it is the result of debris between the disks themselves and the skins. Are the skins loose enough to cause friction while playing? Some are quite loose, while others fit well.

Having first noticed this on SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS, I was willing to attribute it to a flaw in disk production, but when these marks appeared ON MY BACH SACRED CANTATA DISKS---It was all too much. Without further testing, I abandoned the d_skin experiment altogether, glad to have discovered it before other favorite disks were marked beyond repair.

Other reviews here disparaged the use of d_skins, all of which I ignored. After all, I wanted the idea to work. Better to enjoy an unprotected disk as long as possible, rather than destroy it in an attempt at preservation. I am dying daily, so why must my CDs be preserved until the last day?

I only bought a pack of 5 of these for my CDs, DVDs and Xbox games. They sounded like such a good idea. I heard that the laser on players would simply pass through the skin and they would be safe. It started with 5 stars. Here's my experience:

I wanted to play CDs in my slot-loading stereo. But it is NOT recommended that CDs are played in slot-loading multi-disc players with a skin on. That's one less star from the score.

Then I wanted to use them on my DVDs. My DVD player sputtered like a computer with an aneurysm when I tried a monumental task: trying to get my DVD to its main menu. One less star. I then took off the d_skin, and the DVD played fine. The redemption felt good, but I took off another star.

Finally, the Xbox. The Xbox made sputtering noises too, and it COULDN'T EVEN TELL what kind of disc it was with the d_skin on. One less star. Once again, I took of the skin, and both the Xbox and game were fine. Still, one more star gets taken off the score.

In addition, I blew $5 on this trash. That's $5 I'll never see again: take off 5 more stars.

So, we come to a score of negative -5 stars. NEVER buy this trash. The skins crinkle way too easily, too. The plastic on the laser side is alwayus too loose. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor Performance, September 30, 2005

Definitly needs more research. When applied the DVD skip, are pixilated and other video problems. If the materieal were elastic, made to stretch over the disk to prevent wrinkles, it might be a good product. As it is, I don't think these should even be sold.

UPDATE: When I emailed the company with my dissapointment, I recieved a response within 30 minutes! They asked me questions about the batch number, DVD unit I use and then sent me another set of D-Skins which, up to this point, I have had no problem with.

It will destroy your cd's if even the smallest spec is between the skin and the disc... i consider myself paranoid and check the disks throughly befor applying the skin, i just found 3 discs destroyed BECAUSE OF THE D_SKIN!

I AM A VIDEO RETAIL STORE OWNER WITH EXTENSIVE EXPERIENCE USING THIS PRODUCT ON DVDS. PLEASE NOTE: THIS PRODUCT IS FAR FROM PERFECTED AND I CAN ASSURE YOU IT WILL ONLY WORK,(IF IT WORKS AT ALL)WHEN IT FITS PERFECTLY AGAINST THE DVD, ALL RETAINING CLIPS ARE SECURELY MOUNTED AND IT IS APPLIED TO A CLEAN, UNSCRATCHED DISC. YOU WILL UNDOUBTEDLY EXPERIENCE PLAYABILITY ISSUES WITH CERTAIN BRANDS OF DVD PLAYERS, AND THE D-SKIN WILL LIKELY BE THE ISSUE.

BASED ON MY EXPERIENCE, I TRULY DO NOT FEEL THE PRODUCT MEETS EXPECTATIONS FOR ITS INTENDED PURPOSE. YOU ARE LIKELY, AS I WAS, TO BE VERY DISAPPOINTED INDEED.

3.0 out of 5 stars A fresh idea, January 2, 2005

These d_skins work as advertised. I just bought my first package and am using them on some music CDs of mine, and neither the computer or the cd player has had any problems reading them. Only a few gripes, though: they're pretty expensive considering what the things are made out of and how many you get, they scratch relatively easily, and they move around easily. It's preferable to get the 20 pack.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not so great., January 22, 2005
This review is from: D Skin 5 Pack (DVD/GAME/CD) (Video Game)
I bought 2 packs of these. They do protect the cd's just fine, but in order to use the cd while it's on, they have to be in PERFECT condition. Unfortunately they are extremely easy to scratch, and even if they are in perfect condition, i have noticed skipping in gameplay and in music, not bad, but annoying. I cant believe they charge a dollar a peice for these. they are a ring of hard plastic, which clips onto the cd, and I think the part that covers the bottom of the CD is the same stuff that is wrapped around game and dvd cases when you buy them, flimsy plastic. I think they cost less then 1 cent to produce, and therefore should not cost more than 20-25 cents a peice. Conclusion... dont buy them.

1.0 out of 5 stars don't believe it, November 15, 2004
This review is from: D Skin 5 Pack (DVD/GAME/CD) (Video Game)
great concept, bad execution. Bought this product to protect my new Halo 2 disc for Xbox.. product fits like loose celophane wrapper and apparantly interferes with the Xbox read laser, because it states that the disc is unreadable! Able to get it to work only 2 times out of dozen's of try's..

Maybe works for audio but not for xbox games!

1.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't work on XBOX,Laptop and some data cd's!!, January 2, 2005

I bought these in hope that they would be the great thing that they are advertised to be. They weren't! First of all, when using them on an Xbox game, it GREATLY slows down the game, to the point that it is unplayable. When I tried to use these in my laptop, they were a no go! It wouldn't even read the disk and it sounded like my laptop was an airplane taking off due to my cd drive frantically trying to read the disk to no avail. On a desktop computer, it will read some data disks with the d-skin on it, but it's slow. You won't be watching an mpg or vcd movie with the d-skin on for instance. I don't know how well they work on a cd player with musical cd's, but anything else is definately out. Since I am an mp3 man, I have no need to play music cd's, so I haven't tried them. I wish these worked as promised, I REALLY do, it would be a dream. Perhaps someday this idea will be perfected and then I can give FIVE stars instead of ONE!
