Review

“Debra is a goldmine of innovative tips and the latest theory, expertly separating fact from fiction. Readers will love getting to know her and her sage advice through the pages of her indispensable book.”—makeup artist Trish McEvoy

“I absolutely loved this very straightforward and informative guide to skin care. Dr. Jaliman provides
excellent advice and tips on a wide variety of skin care topics from the best inexpensive products to describing the latest dermatological procedures.”—actress Sela Ward

Skin Rules is not just filled with useful tips everybody can use to have better skin - it has brand new information I hadn't seen before. Great little book!”--actress Vera Farmiga

"Debra Jaliman's clear and comprehensive book on skin care is refreshingly accessible, and as expert as we all know that she herself is.She has generously included the names of numerous, readily available products to help with the regimes she prescribes, and of course she has her own superb line of products, too. The overall message is that with proper, educated care and Debra's guidance, we can all have healthy, beautiful skin. This book is terrific."--actress Ali McGraw

"I love this book! And so will every other woman who cares about the way she looks. Dr. Debra Jaliman has turned out a real gem, full of detailed information about the best products to use and lots of other useful tips about beauty in general. She also talks about the use of Botox and all kinds of different fillers. I have a great English skin and have always looked after it, but even I learned so much more from this leading NY Doctor. For instance, I now know to take biotin every day to help my nails and hair. I'll never again go shopping for skin products without a Debra Jaliman list. Skin Rules is clearly and authoritatively written. It is precise, informative and fills a real need."--- Barbara Taylor Bradford, author of Playing The Game

“For years, glamorous New Yorkers have sought out Dr. Jaliman to look their best. This book has great, useful and fun information!"--Jana Klauer, M.D., author of How the Rich Get Thin and The Park Avenue Nutritionist's Plan

"All of my famous Hollywood clients go to Debra Jaliman to maintain their youthful appearance. She is down to earth and never kisses and tells. I love Skin Rules."--Susan Ciminelli, author of  The Ciminelli Solution: A 7-Day Plan for Radiant Skin

"If you care about your image, you should have Dr. Debra Jaliman on speed dial and a copy of Skin Rules always at hand."--Donny Deutsch, television personality, advertising executive and author of Often Wrong, Never in Doubt

"Skin Rules - very informative and easy to understand. This book should be required reading for all adolescents and anyone with skin problems. I was fortunate to have parents that taught me the "cardinal" rule of clear skin. I love that one doesn't have to go to the dermatologist or buy expensive creams for every outbreak."--Katharine Ross, actress

“What a remarkable book – accessible, helpful and to the point!  Every woman should have it by her bed or at her desk. ”--actress Olympia Dukakis

"Dr. Debra Jaliman has been my dermatologist for years. I can't say I look as pretty as she does --but I'm getting close. She's almost too good - for my own book cover, my publishers said I didn't look old enough in the photos. Thanks, Dr. J. You rule!"--Richard Kirshenbaum, author of Madboy: My Journey from Adboy to Adman

with nothing of value that isn't common knowledge to anyone. I sent it back immediately. Complete waste of money. I agree with the above reviewers who point out that somehow this woman managed a lot of phoney reviews to pad this into a much higher rated product. As several of us "real" reviewers point out, most of these glowing testimonials are from people who haven't reviewed ANYTHING ELSE on Amazon.

For those like me who get sucked in, send the copy back (or on Kindle you have an option to return books for a few days under kindle management).

Seriously her 'Chapters" consist of single sentences to a simple paragraph, no real elaboration so if you look at the table of contents, that IS the book. I looked at the physical copy at my local bookstore after firing the kindle version back thinking surely it is a kindle problem. NOPE. The "real hard copy" version has blank pages to keep the book size up, and each "chapter is one or two sentences.

I've seen Allure magazine articles that were longer and more comprehensive written by dermatologists that were 100 times more information than this book. Come to think of it, I've seen magazine ads for cosmetics that had more information!!!!

If you want a good "derm in a book" look at:

After 25 years of practicing dermatology, a practice that includes supermodels and actresses, Dr. Debra Jaliman set out to share her knowledge in a short and practical book that explains everything from basic skin care to the latest technology.
She has succeeded very well. In simple and direct language, she explains the science of skin care: What promises can be kept and which promises should not be made.
The good news from Dr. Jaliman is that everybody's skin can look a lot better. In this book, she will tell you how.
She breaks down the complicated science of achieving beautiful skin into simple rules that are easy to understand and easier to follow.
The result is that after reading Skin Rules, not a dollar, nor a minute which you spend on skin care will be wasted. Skin Rules is like having a dermatologist move in with you to be your personal skin care coach. With this book in hand, you can be sure you will glow.
Dr. Jaliman speaks directly on every aspect of skin care. Here at The Brush Guard, our special mission is brush hygiene and I'd like to quote Dr. Jaliman on this topic:
"Wash your makeup brushes and sponges at least once a week... I've seen a surprising number of patients whose acne failed to improve until they actually started washing their applicators. Keep in mind that bacteria build up quickly on any surface, particularly one that comes into contact with your skin."
Thank you, Dr. Jaliman!

This book is a simple, clean, straightforward read. Helpful. Best skin book I have seen. AND, I admit to being especially impressed by the fact that the author has her own extensive skin care line BUT does NOT refer her own line because that could be perceived as impaired objectivity. Impressive, and certainly unlike most other skin books in which the authors flaunt relentlessly their products. Also, the author names names of products, very specific, that she does recommend. This one is actually worth the money to purchase.

I have read this book and it is OK. WHAT'S EVEN MORE FISHY is that I bought it based off of reviews and then realized 90% reviews were pre-made and each person has only 1 review for this 1 book, which to me looks like she gets her ratings up by clients from her office. Save that for yelp or google reviews...

This book is a pleasure to read. It's concisely and elegantly written. There's not a wasted word in this book, nor an infelicitous one. Every one of the seventy-seven rules is spare, practical, and instantly understandable. The rules come with product recommendations at all price points; Dr. Jaliman does not expect that her readers are all millionaires with an endless supply of money for dermatologic goodies, whether they be procedures or creams.
The tone of this book is as empathetic as it is pragmatic.
It's a book for men, also. There's advice on shaving, hair loss, and tattoo removal.
With a title encompassing the word "secrets," a reader hopes for the scoop on what's hot and really works. The book doesn't disappoint. Rule sixty-one "Freeze Fat, Don't Suction It" discusses the latest cryolipolysis techniques, and the machines that really do freeze off the fat.
This is a gem of a book that I'll keep handy on my book shelf.
