THERE WAS A TIME when having a tan was a status symbol; only the most affluent could afford to take time off from work and travel to exotic locations to achieve a golden brown glow. But as times changed and traveling became less of a luxury and more of a summer standard, and as teens and young adults were increasingly hitting the tanning beds, a golden skin tone became more of a commodity.
