Book Description

March 2008
The frank, ""get real"" approach of this diet book may be just right for those who have tried and tried without success to lose weight and keep it off. As the title indicates, the language is salty as Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin tell readers just what they must get rid of in their everyday eating: sugar first, followed by meat and dairy. Freedman and Barnouin recommend a vegan lifestyle, and tell why, and then offer more than 75 recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacking. They help readers break through the mental denial about bad food habits, and offer responsible and fun food choices without denying cravings and appetite.

Review

Hartford Courant
“…incredibly informative and entertaining… Co-authors Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin provide tough-love talk mixed with facts and common sense...

Freedman and Bamouin speak to the reader like a friend who isn't afraid to tell you what's on her mind. They back up their arguments by citing study after study and take the technical talk out of the discussion so as to make a more easily digested point.

This is the first "diet" book I've ever read that has made me laugh out loud numerous times. That being said, since no one warned me, I'll let you in on a secret - the book will gross you out. In the same vein as Fast Food Nation, there are graphic descriptions of factory farming and unsanitary dairy farm practices. It was easy for me to put down Fast Food Nation but this book is so funny, I had to keep going.

Almost immediately, I was one of the transformed. In fact, as soon as I got halfway through Chapter 4, "The Dead, Rotting Decomposing Flesh Diet", I had to call and change my dinner plans because I decided to go vegan on the spot.

“a cynical, foul-mouthed read with only good intentions that could get you into your best bikini shape for this pool season…The book’s conversational tone makes for an interesting and entertaining read – not simply just dos and don’ts of dieting and exercise like most weight-loss plan guides.”

5.0 out of 5 stars Eye Opening, October 2, 2008
This review is from: Skinny Bitch (Spanish Edition) (Paperback)
This book was not only a funny and informational read, but incredible eye opening. I have been a Vegeterian for a while and this is just the push i need to embark into a vegan lifestyle. I know of so many people that have become vegans from this book alone. They are responsible of saving the lives of hundreds of animals, i have nothing but love and respect for these girls.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book changed my life, July 22, 2008
This review is from: Skinny Bitch (Spanish Edition) (Paperback)
When I saw this book at the bookstore I thought that it was just a simple diet book. I had no idea how it would change my life. I read this book all in one sitting it was so engrossing. I never planned to be a vegan, but I am proud to say that I have been one now for a month and I have no plans of stopping. Yes I had to give up many things that I loved, but I feel so much better and healthier.
I could have done with out the vulgar language - that is the only negative about this book.
I tell friends who ask why I went vegan that I read this book and that I only recommend reading it if you are ready for a lifestyle change.
Overall I am thrilled with my lifestyle change. I have finally managed to drop the last 5 pounds that were hanging on from my second pregnancy.

1.0 out of 5 stars Unrealistic, July 9, 2008
This review is from: Skinny Bitch (Spanish Edition) (Paperback)
Ok, so if you do not mind having a $2,000 grocery bill a month, rarely going out to eat, and sitting alone in the corner at family/friend get togethers because you can't eat anything there..then this book is for you! Parts are true, however people we only live once and moderation is key! This diet is almost so hard to follow, its unrealistic anyone in the right mind could not stick to it! I can assure you that whether you eat vegan or eat what you like moderatley, I can't imagine it prolonging your life being a complete vegan vs a moderate diet. Water, Proteins, Veggies, occasionaly treating yourself that is the way to go. THIS BOOK IS UNREALISTIC, A FAD, just look at the cover its there just go grab your attention and thats about it.
