5.0 out of 5 stars This Skinny Pill Program Really Works
I have tried Edita's Skinny Pill Program which consists of a fabulous formula of five nutritional supplements that fight fat and a wonderful food plan, Edita calls The Skinny Food Clock. I have lost a pound a day...for the past 15 days and I feel great. My friends have also lost as much as 34 pounds and 16 or more inches. We have loads of energy. Feel truly happy and...

3.0 out of 5 stars Skinny Pill book is puzzling., January 16, 2000
This review is from: The Skinny Pill (Hardcover)
This is a book I have mixed feelings about. The author is shown overweight and slender on the back cover. One caption reads, "Edita before skinny pill". The other caption reads, "Edita after skinny pill" Yet the author claims in her previous book "The Fountain of Youth" that she lost her weight with "The Fountain of Youth" diet which is different from "The Skinny Pill" plan. The author explains in the book how frustrated she feels for women who eat healthy foods like broccoli and find it turns to fat. Come on Edita, its hard to believe that most women who eat a healthy diet in moderate portions will have major weight concerns unless they have a medical problem. Then Edita claims she had an eureka moment, she realized that you could buy pills to cure headaches etc. but she wondered where were the pills to make you skinny "..where was the skinny aisle?" I have seen plenty of products that claim to make you slim so I am not sure why Edita thought this was a new concept. Anyway, Edita developed a pill, and an eating plan she claims will make you slim. I have read about and used many of the supplements that make up her pill. Though I found her information to be consistent with other sources I have read, one fact she gives on chitosan is a bit misleading. In a special box in bold letters, she writes, "250 mg of chitosan absorbs 1000mg of fat!" Though she makes it sound like a lot, its not. 1000 mg of fat equals 1 gram of fat which is only 9 calories. So 250mg chitosan is not really absorbing that many calories. Though I believe chitosan can effectively be used as a fatblocker, it needs to be taken according to the amount of fat in what you are eating. I don't believe the small 250mg dose that is in the pill she recommends will do a whole lot. Edita also gives a bit of information on how to increase your fat loss with exercise. However there is not a lot of detail here. Exercise information is limited to 2 pages. Much more depth is needed. And Edita could have done that. Unlike her prior book, "The Fountain of Youth" which is jam-packed with information and detail, "The Skinny Pill" is a slim volume, with big type and lots of white space. Its almost like she rushed to get it out. There were mistakes, I noticed in the book also. The section on fiber, incorrectly listed some of the soluble and insoluble fibers. I found the eating plan to be very interesting though. According to Edita fiber rich foods should be eaten in the am. And proteins should be the focus in the pm. I decided to try this and though its too early to say for sure it does appear to work for me. Edita gives simple recipes, but does not give the detail she should. For example, one recipe calls for a 'large' scoop of ice cream. None of the recipes give nutritional information, which would be helpful to have. Edita advises you to take antioxidents along with her "skinny pill" but here again there is a lack of information on antioxidents themselves and exactly what to look for when selecting one. Edita describes what is in her skinny pill. You can make it yourself with ingredients from the health food store or purchase hers online or from an 800 number. Because I was so intriqued with her eating plan I felt it only fair to Edita to see if she could address some of my concerns regarding her book. But alas! I emailed her at her website 3 times for clarification. My emails were never responded to. I called her 800 number where they are happy to take your order but refer all questions to a long distance customer service number. I called that number several times, an answering machine answered each time and no one returned my calls. There are also NO RETURNS when you order from Edita. Supposedly because of the "special prices" which really dont seem so specail. A 30 day supply of her skinny pill is $35.95 with shipping! I also find it curious that though Edita claims "The Skinny Pill" is the way to get skinny she also sells a very different eating plan "The Fountain of Youth" plan. I noticed that one internet website had this plan for sale with a product that contained a fat burner that had all the ingredients of the skinny pill but was called something else! I would say Edita may be on to something but she leaves lots of unanswered concerns and a big ? in my mind.

1.0 out of 5 stars don't waste your money, June 6, 2001
This review is from: The Skinny Pill (Hardcover)
This is a diet, there is nothing new about the food plan except perhaps the distribution of fiber and protein throughout your day. If you are able to stick to a reducing diet, you will love it. The pills....what can I say. If you are sensitive to stimulants these are not for you. I tried them as directed and got that sick, clammy feeling you get from stimulants. There is a no-return policy on the pills because you must follow the diet for them to work, so I feel I just wasted [money] having only used two pills. I'm not a satisfied customer. You can do the diet without the pills and lose weight. Can you lose weight on the pills without dieting? Well, let's be honest...we all know the answer to that. Buy your vitimins elsewhere for less is my advice.

As for the fat-absorption qualities of the pills, the claims are ambitious at best. Chitosan will only absorb dietary fat (fat you eat), and not much of that. Chitosan as a fat-absorber won't do anything to the fat your body creates in the bloodstream from sugar and starches, and that is why most of us are overweight.

If you want to lose weight you need to educate yourself. I highly recommend two books. "Sugar Busters" is a great primer for understanding the role of insulin in fat storage and how whole grains slow down the release of insulin. "The Schwartzbein Diet" covers the same ground in more detail and goes a step further by teaching you how to achieve the right amount carbohydrate consumption throughout your day to permanently control your weight without deprivation. Both books are written by doctors. Yes they require lifestyle changes, but the truth is there is no magic bullet.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Skinny Pill Changed My Life!, May 31, 2000
By
Vanessa (Colorado Springs) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Skinny Pill (Hardcover)
I heard about the Skinny Pill from a radio interview, and I was skeptical at first. But I ordered the book, I followed the program, and I saw results immediately. The diet program is the easiest thing in the world! The meals Edita outlines in her book are simple, smart, and sensible. When combined with the pill, the results are miraculous. I started taking the pills and following the food plan last month. I have lost 17 pounds in 30 days. I am not kidding. I don't feel sick anymore. I have lots of energy. I have more self-confidence. I am happy. Plus, the skinny pill ingredients are all natural so I don't have to worry about chemical reactions or side affects. If you have a weight problem read this book. Do what it says. You will lose weight. I did.

5.0 out of 5 stars The BEST Diet Plan Ever, June 1, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Skinny Pill (Hardcover)
I love the Skinny Pill Program. And so does my whole family and most of my chubby friends...who are now getting skinny right along with me. This book is easy to read. It is full of new information presented in a way that finally makes sense. The supplements are just part of this terrific program...there is a wonderful food plan which is easy to follow and my whole family loves it...no more making separate meals for everyone. I joined Edita's Skinny Club and she sends me inspirational messages every morning...there are recipes, a newsletter and so much more. I can truly say that this program works (I have lost 27 pounds in 7 weeks) and there is a lot of wonderful hand-holding and inspiration as well. Edita is there for you all the time. This is a book everyone should read and follow--especially if other plans have not worked...or worked for awhile and then quit.

3.0 out of 5 stars Okay for the "new" dieter, June 4, 2001

This review is from: The Skinny Pill (Hardcover)
I got this book and the Skinny pills. After trying it for 30 days, I lost 10 lbs. I found that I could not eat everything on the menu (it was a lot of food for me). I think it's an okay book for someone who has no concept of how to eat right but I lost as much weight sticking to a healthy diet and excersising. Yes, you must eat to lose weight but what you eat is the key. Edita gives good menu selections. It takes alot of work for me to lose weight and keep it off. I have a 4'9" frame and I excerise everyday and eat less than 1200 calories normally. One weekend of "forget it" attitude and I've gained 5 lbs. This book gets a new dieter on the right track but you don't need the "skinny pill" to lose the weight. will power, healthy eating and excersise. Buy it if you must but I recommend you spend the money on extra veggies instead - you'll get more for your $$.

2.0 out of 5 stars Same Old Thing, May 12, 2001
This review is from: The Skinny Pill (Hardcover)
I ordered this book fully expecting to get a diet book that is just the same old thing. Guess what, I got exactly what I expected. In my opinion this book is just like a lot of other diet books that I have read. It just puts the foods in a different order. In one of the first chapters it describes Americans that have tried to do low fat diets and talks about all the sliced vegies that we have all carried around in little plastic bags while we are trying to diet. But then when you get to the foods that you can eat and the daily menus, guess what you get? Yes more of those yummy vegies. However in the book it is called a skinny salad or deli plate. To sum it up this book offers no real new diet plan or foods. It cuts out most or all fats like dressings, sauces and dairy. So what you are left with is the usual...lots of vegies, nonfat dairy products, skinless or low fat meats and very little sugar. Haven't we all heard this before from our doctors? Maybe eating these foods in the order in which this book describes will work but if you are looking for a book that will let you eat all this wonderful food and lose weight you will not find it here. In my opinion this book leads people to believe that you can have all these wonderful foods if you eat then in the right order. Well, once you PURCHASE the book and read it you will see that it is the same old thing. As far as the skinny pill goes I have not tried it. But if you go on this diet you will not need any pill because you will lose weight. This book does have a diet plan that will result in weight loss. So if you are looking for any way to lose weight, this plan along with hundreds of others like it will work. But if you are looking for some kind of new diet I do not think you will find it here.

By A Customer
This review is from: The Skinny Pill (Hardcover)
This book is amazing. I bought THE SKINNY PILL for a friend of mine who started the program in September. She was a size 16 when she started Edita Kaye's program and in four (4) short months she dropped to a size 8! No Kidding! If you need to lose weight, if you want to lose weight...this is the best way to do it!

The best part of this book is the motivation it has given me to finally lose weight! I've tried everything..I've spent hours in the weightloss section of the bookstore trying to find a book (and an author) I could relate to..and Edita Kaye is that person. The book is fun, witty, easy-to-read and inspirational. I highly recommend it!

1.0 out of 5 stars The Skinny Pill, April 7, 2000
This review is from: The Skinny Pill (Hardcover)
I thought this was a weight loss book but as I read I found a claim that It was not. It was a fat loss book. I read the book, took the pills and lost no weight. You have to stop eating to lose weight. Unfortunately there is no magic pill and this is a waste of money.
