The best thing this guy could do is take all the money he has made investing in silver and get this book properly edited and proof-read. It is chock full of grammatical errors, making the read quite unenjoyable. i have no doubt that Mr. Morgan knows about silver, but he needs a do-over; a second edition of this book that is actually readable. 4.0 out of 5 stars Tell me more about Silver Mr. Morgan!, September 7, 2006
This review is from: Get the Skinny on Silver Investing (Paperback)
The author, David Morgan sets forth a compilation of his own and several other individuals' viewpoints as to the supply / demand & fundementals of silver. He cites many experts on the subject and is fairly articulate and concise. He also speaks of 5 or 6 ways for the retail public to invest in silver.
I was left with several questions after reading his book. What is the true value of silver? What is the best way to invest in silver? Finally, can silver be a "great" investment without a monetary component. Morgan presents his information in an objective fashion and although he obviously favors silver as a cornerstone of investing; he does not preach to his audience. Perhaps the sequel will provide greater depth?

4.0 out of 5 stars An interesting book on silver investing, March 30, 2007
This review is from: Get the Skinny on Silver Investing (Paperback)
Content:
The book contain 11 short chapters which takes us from the fundamentals driving the silver sector as the supply and demand in Chapter 1, then the misconception that photography is the major driver of the silver sector (Chapter 3), fraudulent activities of the silver & gold leasing (Chapter 4). David Morgan explains very well, why silver is money and not a commodity in Chapter 6. Chapter 7 is devoted to the new uses for silver and the coming demand squeeze, Then from chapter 8 to 10 he briefly discuss different types of investments alternatives in the sector with bullion and coins, silver & mining stocks and leveraged type of investments. He finishes with some future price projections for silver.

Positive:
- If you read a book about a sector such as small as silver, you want facts, lots of them... the book sums up what you need to know about silver market that is positive!
- An easy to read book with a good combination of history and economic of the silver sector.
- The price of the book.

Negative:
- Maybe a more balanced view on the silver market (i.e not so bullish all the time).

Overall i think David Morgan does a good job giving us the skinny on silver in 110 pages. This is one of the few books about the silver sector, and absolutely worth the few hours it takes to read it.

Serious hard assets investor will be excited reading this book. On the other hand for short term speculators this is unfortunately not a book for you, it will only tell how to invest on silver for the years to come and that is unfortunatly not enough for the trader.

This review is from: Get the Skinny on Silver Investing (Paperback)
The best thing this guy could do is take all the money he has made investing in silver and get this book properly edited and proof-read. It is chock full of grammatical errors, making the read quite unenjoyable. i have no doubt that Mr. Morgan knows about silver, but he needs a do-over; a second edition of this book that is actually readable. It is full of run-ons, incomplete sentences and words that are randomly capitalized. Sorry, but when I buy a published book, I expect a few things- one of which is the ability to read it without a constant stream of bad and obvious errors. One or two mistakes are forgivable, but the entire book is fraught with basic bad writing, making the content of the book difficult to get to.
I finally put it down. How I wish I had bought a silver eagle with the money I spent on this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Colladoproperties.com, March 28, 2007
This review is from: Get the Skinny on Silver Investing (Paperback)
A great book on silver investing. A quick and easy to read book on the fact that silver maybe the last investment left for the have nots in the 21st century.

The secret to surviving the next few years is keeping your wealth in real money, not in the U.S. dollar. Buy things that hold their value and are exchangeable all over the world. Commodities such as gold and silver have a world market that transcends national borders, politics, religions, and race. A person may not like someone else's religion, but he'll accept his gold and silver.

One of the reasons why I'm bullish on gold and silver is because the American public is still sound asleep to this asset class. Most Americans have no idea how or where to buy physical gold and silver. The outlets that sell gold and silver I have visited are already low on inventory.

If and when the American public wakes up to the reality that their dollars are not money, but a currency, the panic and stampede will begin. Should that happen, today's prices for gold and silver will look like bargains. Especially for silver.

1.0 out of 5 stars Lousy book, August 18, 2009
This review is from: Get the Skinny on Silver Investing (Paperback)
As another reviewer indicated this is just a pamphlet cheerleading silver. But at least for me it didn't provide the kind of hard facts and data that I want before deciding to commit $ to an investment. Don't get me wrong, I do think precious metals are a good place to be right now. But even if you do find yourself convinced by this book that you want to get into silver, it will still leave you wondering how to do so. And from what I gather, the WAY you invest in precious metals is crucial.

Funny thing, I read this book 2 or 3 years ago and mostly forgot about it. But I just listened to a clip of David Morgan on youtube, and he sounded sharp. It got me thinking, 'was this the guy whose lousy book I read?' So I checked on Amazon, and indeed it was, so I had to write a review.

Some things I would have liked to see in a book on silver investing were: a good review of the fundamentals affecting silver; plenty of hard data on historic trends and the current situation; a review of the different ways to invest in silver, with pros and cons for each.

I got none of this. I was angry after reading it because I felt like it was a joke on me. The back cover reinforced this feeling, giving me the impression that whatever he's made or lost in silver, he's making $ off his book and laughing all the way to the bank.

From what I heard in the clip Mr. Morgan might be capable of writing the kind of book I'd like to see. But it looks to me like this book was just a way to create another 'stream of revenue', taking advantage of current interest in precious metals and the ease of slapping together a book in the computer age.

Still haven't found a good book on the topic, so it's the wild west of sifting the internet for info that passes the smell test.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Information About Silver I've Come Across, June 26, 2007
This review is from: Get the Skinny on Silver Investing (Paperback)
David Morgan the author, has done one of the best jobs I've ever seen, in explaining the demand and supply problems that presently are causing silver prices to move up. He not only covers silver, but gold as well, just not in as much detail. If your considering buying or investing in silver, this book is a must. If your not thinking about silver as an investment you need this book even more. He not only proves his point, he gives plenty of online sites to investagate the case for silver moving up. Written in 2006 the information is up to date and right to the point....

1.0 out of 5 stars Amazon, please let me give this book zero stars., February 19, 2009
This review is from: Get the Skinny on Silver Investing (Paperback)
The author presents very few facts, and the facts he does present are either inaccurate or presented in an extremely misleading way. He doesn't understand silver markets, markets in general, or even the most elementary aspects of economics. Much of the book is a rambling rant against fiat currency. The author is obviously not well educated and does not have a firm grasp of English grammar or spelling. The positive reviews here have to have been written by the author or his friends... BUYER BEWARE.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this book!, July 9, 2008
By
This review is from: Get the Skinny on Silver Investing (Paperback)
This book, or booklet really (113 pages), is the worst work I have ever read on investing in silver. On one level, the poor sentence structure and misspellings are a constant annoyance. There are also no footnotes or bibliography. The eleven chapters, Supply and Demand, The Photography Myth, Is Silver Money (sic), Silver Stocks - How to Pick a good Mining Company (sic), etc. are unrelated to each other and consist mainly of rambling thoughts. I would have to place this work on the level of a middle school first draft.

3.0 out of 5 stars Solid Introduction Into the Topic of Silver and the Basis for its Overall Importance, March 5, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Get the Skinny on Silver Investing (Paperback)
This book is for the "Average" traditional investor who probably think's they're suave or experienced who relies heavily on a traditional 401k or a IRA account as the bulk of their investments and is looking for an alternative or the "next big thing".

It's very basic and completely void of hard critical data and information, it's mostly a book of "big ideas" or "big pictures" to get the points across which are valid, but it's only a decent introduction into the different methods and strategies of investing in gold and silver out there.

The author does a good job with keeping out sales pitches and over hyping investment strategies that have potential to produce great returns at great risk of losing wealth. That is something new investors learning about silver and gold need to be aware of when someone is educating them vs pitching to them.

The entire book itself is really just a single product of the author who has his own business interests in mind and does want to sell you on his methods and his strategies if you choose to follow him more personally. But he keeps much of the hype out of the book and keeps it focused on fundamentals.

Since this book was written right before the 2007 housing market crashed, and when gold and silver were still very low overall, to pickup the book a few years after it was written shows that the author was right in many respects for the short term, and long term prices and market changes still have yet to occur (as of 03/2011) and still have great potential to happen. So the author is giving sound credible advice and information that is proving results. So even if the book becomes a bit dated, fallowing the author individually may also prove worth while.

I picked this book up along with Mike Maloney's book "Guide to Investing in Gold and Silver" which is more about monetary history and the history of gold and silver. Mike Maloney's book will get you better information, this "Skinny" book is more of a coffee table book for people to glance at and read a chapter in 30 minutes.

What this book lacks are concrete facts, details, charts and other visual graphics, credible sources of references for commodities such as CPM Group and World Gold Counsel or Silver Seeker. As well as professional and specific strategies and advice for any would-be silver investor rather than vague "be careful" statements.

He makes no mention of what can legally go unreported to the IRS, no mention of international holdings in foreign banks (which can hold $10,000 in assets without reporting to the IRS). He makes very little mention of the cause and effects of market manipulation of silver (who what where when why how), he makes no mention of the differences between holding silver in a SD-IRA vs storing silver at your home for free to minimize overhead costs (at the risk of potential theft and disaster. Very little details about different types of coins and bullion, popularity, quality, manufacturers etc... There is a lot of stuff that went unspoken in this book.

Anyone who reads this book without prior knowledge has a lot to learn before they jump in and start making investments. Just like his friend, you don't want to buy a stock share of a silver company that just has "silver" in it's name and no real business.

I'm bullish on silver, I like being a silver bug, and I have both long term and short term strategies. But when you are coming to the party late, don't get into a rush to play catch up. Seek professional advice and information and resources from many credible people. Don't listen to advice that is over hyped unless you're simply looking for creative ideas "food for thought" rather than actual investment advice.
