Too bad they didn't follow the book they would've had a much better movie!

It wasn't a total loss however because it did actually set a new precedence for cinematic lows previously held by the Paranormal Activity series.

The acting was OK,, but enough to draw me in and to over look the weaknesses of the film.

Knowing the stories about this area and the ranch where these events took place, this movie gave us a view from a HD camera angle not perfect, but decent. The acting was OK,, but enough to draw me in and to over look the weaknesses of the film. If indeed what this movie reenacts the events and creatures seen at Skinwalker ranch, then I would be totally freaked out, and would get the heck out of dodge! Would I watch this movie again? Yes.

If you are looking for " Aliens", " The Day the Earth Stood Still" , " Close Encounters of the 4th Kind" or for that matter " Cloverfield" ...... simply move on.
If you watch this movie completely ignorant to the background story you are bound to be frustrated.
The movie is based ( and I admit loosely) on the experiences the "Gorman" family reported on their ranch in the Uinta Basin , Utah in the 1990s.
A lot of liberties have been taken with the original actual events as reported by the Gorman family as well as the research team sent out investigate , so watch accordingly.
It is my humble opinion this was done to appeal to a broader audience.

In addition, this is yet another movie in the "found footage" genre and it has been tweaked up a bit to keep the general public interested. The "found footage" style does fit the subject of this film very well.

For those of us fully aware of the weird and inexplicable goings on at the " Skin Walker Ranch", this movie gives us a chance to witness ,via the magic of modern movie making, what it must have been like to witness the phenomena as it occurred.
With this in mind I think overall the movie scores big thumbs up from followers of the real " Skin Walker Ranch" story.

Here's the thing - every individual part of this movie works. All the parts in isolation seem either perfectly serviceable or above average. The effects, while low budget, work. The plot moves at a nice pace. The acting is ... acceptable. The ideas are cool.

But still - this is a movie that always feels like it is just about ready to cohere and never quite does. It's always "just about" there. There is some bit of cohesiveness that is missing.

Still... I guess it's worth a rental at the very least. It's really one of those movies that can go either way.

I was hoping to see a film depicting the scientific research into the real other-worldly events from the actual book "Hunt for the Skinwalker" but rather got a sophomoric work of fiction contrived after exhaustively reading the book's sleeve description. It wasn't a total loss however because it did actually set a new precedence for cinematic lows previously held by the Paranormal Activity series. The choppy, handheld "found footage" format actually put physical stress on my brain, and it was only through frequent breaks that I finished watching the entire movie. Please, if I can save just one person from wasting a section of their irretrievable life with this review, I would feel vindicated from wasting that section of my own.

After a child disappears from an isolated ranch, a group of paranormal investigators show up with cameras, motion detectors, etc. The film seemed to lack direction as we discover:

1) The land has an ancient curse
2)There is an apparition
3) Lights appear from nowhere. Aliens are suspected.
4) There is a 500 pound warg running around at night.
5) Bats commit suicide on the ranch roof
6) And oh Yes, they discover an old government tape.

This is a low budget film put together by a small group of experienced people who did all aspects of the film. The bulk of the film was done well, considering how bad this genre has gone. There is a suicide in one scene where a person shoots themselves in the head. The blood splatter appears behind him slightly ahead of the gun fire. The end suffers from the same question in other films, who is holding the camera while the guy is being chased by "space ghost" or whatever that was. Character dialogue could have been better.

Worth a rental for hand held horror fans for those who would like to see aliens mixed with LOTR animals.

Parental Guide: F-bomb. No sex or nudity. 3 1/2 stars

I kept watching hoping it would get better, It didn't. Couldn't make up if it wanted to be extraterrestrial or paranormal. Either one is fine, just pick one. Could not be less based on the book, or the real Skinwalker ranch. Camera work not at all good. Way too many dark as night scenes where you can't really tell what's going on. All the good stuff happening scenes given over to static ruing the scene. Seems like they all do that so no one actually has to act, Changed from a 2 stars to 3 just to be fair, but I am glad I rented rather than bought.

This movie looks like it was made up as they went along. This is the worst movie I have ever seen! I recommend it to no one. I have no idea why I watched it to the end.

...at the end of the movie. I'm not kidding. In fact, if you want any hope of understanding what the supermultidimensional (no pun intended) plot was about, watch the credits at the end where they have newspaper clippings flashing by, that gives you some insight into what was supposed to be going on. What little special effects there were, was well done. Acting was as good as the plot allowed for (not much). Have you seen the "lost coast tapes" bigfoot movie? Did you like it? Well consider that one awesome compared to this one. If you want to see the Devin McGinn doing better acting, (albeit a quirky movie), watch Unicorn City.
