5.0 out of 5 stars A stimulating version of the song
This book can be read, but it is even better when the text is sung. It is repetitive in style making it conducive to participation by young or slower children. Year after year this is always the favorite book of the students in my special education classroom. It is one book that my students can mimic reading on their own. A+

3.0 out of 5 stars be careful - may be wrong version
this is a great book, at least in it's original form. i first saw it in the doctor's office. our pediatrician says that it's his favorite kids' book. however, the 2 copies I received from amazon were a shorter version, only 24 pages. in this shorter version, the action ends abruptly with the house in a mess. in the real version (30 pages - the one that's advertised...

1.0 out of 5 stars Six pages missing from new edition, May 11, 2005

This review is from: Skip to My Lou (Board book)
I was going to give this book five stars after I got it out of the library. Then I ordered the book from amazon - to be stunned to see that the last SIX pages, some of the funnier ones, are missing! They are:

"Look at the clock, it's a quarter to two. Goodness gracious, what will we do? Hurry quick it's up to you" and showing the animals cleaning up and running back to their paddocks.

The book makes little sense without these.

5.0 out of 5 stars My 2 1/2 yr old loves this book, September 21, 2001
By
This review is from: Skip to My Lou (Board book)
If you are familiar with Nadine Bernard Westcott, then you probably know what to expect. Detailed drawings provide something new to discover and laugh about with each reading.

A young boy is left by himself on the farm while his grandparents tell him to "Take care of the farm. We'll be back by two." First the flies get into the sugarbowl, the the cats make a mess with the buttermilk. After the pigs prove to be messy eaters in the parlor, things really start to get out of control. The sheep get into the bathtub (unzipping their wool suits first) and the cows try their hand at making pancakes in the kitchen. My daughter loves to locate all the pancakes, which one cow is merrily flipping up into the air with a pan. Although another cow stands ready to catch most of the pancakes, many more have landed on the clock, on the sink, over a door, scattered on the floor, etc. My daughter enjoys "reading" this book by herself.

With all the detail in the drawings, save money on those "I Spy" books and buy this book instead. It's also hard not to get caught up in the silliness. We add to the song, imagining what hijinks other animals might be up to:

"Monkeys in the bedroom, calling 'Yoo-hoo!',
Elephants in the basement, painting it blue,
Skip to My Lou, my darling!"

5.0 out of 5 stars colorful, joyful telling, July 23, 2002
This review is from: Skip to My Lou (Board book)
This is a great version of this classic song. A little boy is left in charge of his grandparents' farm and things begin to go wrong right away.

The layout encourages singing along though it's not necessary -- you and your kids will still enjoy these funny and colorful watercolor animals as they joyfully misbehave.

Fun, lively, colorful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for the young, January 14, 2002
This review is from: Skip to My Lou (Board book)
I bought this book for my 15 month old daughter and she loves it!! I have to sing this book to her several time per day but I don't mind one bit. The pictures are great and hold her attention. I would also recommend "The Lady with the Alligator Purse" by the same author!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good book, October 30, 2011

This book is cute. It's not as long or "wordy" as I was hoping for but it is still one that my daughters enjoy. Some of the other singing books by the same author are much better such as, Bill Grogan's Goat, Michael Finnegan, and the Eensy Weensy Spider.

3.0 out of 5 stars An adapted version?, January 18, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Skip to My Lou (Board book)
My 11 month old loves her Wheels On The Bus book and as much as I love singing it to her 20 times a day, I'd like to have other options in our library! Skip To My Lou is a classic song but this version in the book is not quite the original. I'm not sure how to even sing the first 2 pages: Sitting on the front porch, painted like new. The farm's all in order, there's not much to do. Take care of the farm. We'll be back by two!" And yes, just like all the other reviewers said, there are pages missing at the end so the story just ENDS...

"Skip to My Lou" is out of print. My grandaughter loves this book. When I ordered the used copy, I did not expect it to be Hardcover. It arrived promptly and is in prime condition. I was pleased with the service.
