5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent Skipper book!
Not just strictly a "doll" book, the authors have gone out of their way to include information and pictures on foreign skippers, color/design variations of the outfits, furniture and cases, and prototypes of what *could* have been! Besides just showing a picture of each outfit and the average price value, there is also an item-by-item list so that no yo-yo or...

2.0 out of 5 stars ONLY COVERS 15 YEARS (1964-1978)!
While this second edition book is pleasant to look at, my major fault with this revised edition is that the authors once again chose to cover ONLY the first 15 years of Skipper's illustrious history. In their introduction they state, "This book chronicles Skipper doll, her ensembles, friends, gift sets, licensed products, and doll cases from her introduction in 1964...

Not just strictly a "doll" book, the authors have gone out of their way to include information and pictures on foreign skippers, color/design variations of the outfits, furniture and cases, and prototypes of what *could* have been! Besides just showing a picture of each outfit and the average price value, there is also an item-by-item list so that no yo-yo or hair curler will go unaccounted for! This is a great resource for fashion collectors; a few of the outfits are even shown on the dolls so we can see how great they look in them! While this is a great book, it stops at the year 1978, so it's not aimed at contemporary Skipper collectors. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars The Skipper book I've been waiting for!, August 28, 1999
This review is from: Skipper: Barbie Doll's Little Sister: Identification and Value Guide (Paperback)
What little material available on Skipper isn't anything close to the tons of information here. All the outfits are beautifully photographed, and there are so many rare and unusual items. I really enjoyed seeing so many outfits dressed on the incredible dolls. If you buy this book, you're going to see that lots of Skipper stuff is just as wonderful as her big sister Barbie's.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have book for Skipper doll collectors!, November 11, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Skipper: Barbie Doll's Little Sister: Identification and Value Guide (Paperback)
Finally! A book for Skipper collectors! What a great book. Very informative, fantastic color photographs, also an up to date price guide. Includes photos of lots of hard to find items including cases and licensed products. It's also wonderful to be able to see pictures of foreign issue dolls and outfits as well as rare doll and outfit variations. This informative book has made collecting so much more fun!

2.0 out of 5 stars ONLY COVERS 15 YEARS (1964-1978)!, December 28, 2010
By
While this second edition book is pleasant to look at, my major fault with this revised edition is that the authors once again chose to cover ONLY the first 15 years of Skipper's illustrious history. In their introduction they state, "This book chronicles Skipper doll, her ensembles, friends, gift sets, licensed products, and doll cases from her introduction in 1964 through 1978, the last year the first Skipper face mold was used exclusively for the line." HUH?!? Why does the fact that Mattel introduced one new face for Skipper in 1979 negate the many other beautiful Skipper dolls that were sold USING THE ORIGINAL vintage 1964 Skipper face and vintage body molds sold through much of the 1980s, both domestically and abroad??? The familiar, sweet 1964 face of Skipper is found in the U.S. on 1979's Sun Lovin' Malibu Skipper, 1982's Sunsational Malibu Skipper, 1984's Sun Gold Malibu Skipper, and 1984's Great Shape Skipper, while foreign markets were treated to the 1964-face Skipper in such lovely editions as Spielmit Skipper, Beach Fun Skipper, Sports Star Skipper, Disco/Golden Nights Skipper, Jeans Skipper, Jogging Skipper, Super Dance Skipper, Safari Skipper, the U.K. version of Great Shape Skipper wearing green, Beach Time Skipper, Sea Lovin' Skipper, Music Lovin' Skipper, Tennis Skipper, and California Skipper! To cite a new Skipper face being introduced in 1979 as the reason the book fails to go beyond 1978 is akin, in my opinion, to a Barbie book that only covers 1959 to 1966 since Barbie received a new head mold in 1967!!! Since Skipper is still on store shelves in 2011, it seems to me that a book featuring the first 15 years of the doll's history has limited its audience--after all, Skipper turns 47 years old in 2011! I wish that the authors had included these other beautiful Skipper dolls instead of the clone/imitator Skipper dolls and the licensed products, which are categories that many doll collectors avoid. It is my feeling that, simply put, $24.95 is too high a price for one-third of Skipper's story told in paperback.

5.0 out of 5 stars Skipper Book Review, January 19, 2000
This review is from: Skipper: Barbie Doll's Little Sister: Identification and Value Guide (Paperback)
I have found this book to be a very valuable tool in identifying the correct and I stress correct components of Skipper, Todd and Tutti outfits. It is very informative, easy to see even the smallest items, and very well structured. I highly recommend this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars great book if you don't have the original edition, February 3, 2011
This is a fantastic book if you didn't get a chance to buy the first edition (and refuse to spend a small fortune for it on the secondary market). If you buy this book, you'll have no need to hunt down the first edition.

If you already have the first edition of this book, save your money. I have the first edition and I compared the two books, page by page, and only found a few new pictures. Beyond the addition of the few new pictures, the contents of this book is identical to that of the original edition.

What a great book....full of photographs and information on indentication and pricing of vintage Skipper dolls. Even if you don't collect Skipper, this book will bring back many fond memories. However, it's dangerous if you do!!

5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME!, October 9, 2010
By
The first edition of this book was great, but the new 2nd edition is AMAZING! There's more photos, a new price guide and updated information from the first version. The photographs are really beautiful and fun to look at, and it's very helpful to have all the pieces of an outfit pictured and described with their assigned rarity. This book has been really helpful to me in piecing together outfits and figuring out some variations as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-have for all Skipper doll collectors!, October 24, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Very well done; beautiful pictures and accurate description, as far as I can judge (I'm not a Skipper doll collector; I just have some in my Barbie collection!)
By the way, it stops at the early 70s.
I wonder if the Authors are going to publish something on the later Skipper dolls...
