I prefer the normal Skippy Natural over the honey flavor, having tried both. The honey flavor has a strange, kind of more plastic-y consistency, and sugar comes before honey on the ingredients list. It tastes okay, but I don't think the extra sweetness adds anything.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
I've got three kids, all of whom love the classic PB&J, including one who used to prefer peanut butter and honey, to any jelly option. He still likes that combo, but has outgrown it a bit (he's 8, now). We usually use JIF natural, as that's the flavor profile my kids and, frankly, I prefer, and we've tried Jif's similar honey version (see: Jif Natural Peanut Butter Spread and Honey), though which is good, but doesn't top the standard for us.

I found this Skippy natural honey option inferior in both taste and texture to the Jif version. This could be because I grew up with Jif, and most of our taste, particularly those for certain brand formulas (peanut butter and ketchup being the two biggies, from what I've heard), are formed in childhood. Basically, if you grew up eating Jif, than Jif is probably what peanut butter "should" taste like in your mind; the same goes for kids who grew up with Skippy.

This wasn't bad, per se, but it despite the "no stir" claim, there was oil to combine on the top, and the texture, even after vigorous stirring, was drier and chalkier than I like. The honey taste is also very pronounced, but also somewhat unnatural, despite the product's moniker. I'm not saying they didn't use genuine honey, I'm just saying it had a strong Bit-o-Honey -- to my mind, the worst candy ever invented -- almost bitter bite to it that left a strange, and, frankly, unpleasant after taste.

As for my kids, one didn't notice on their sandwich, and two commented that it "tasted funny" though, to be fair, the second only piped up after the first started to complain so who knows if that was a genuine dislike or a jump-on-the-bandwagon complaint. Your mileage may vary, given personal taste preferences, but it's not something I'd buy again.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
I generally review entertainment products on Amazon but when Amazon offered this product in exchange for an objective review as part of its “Vine Reviewer” program (where they send the products to selected reviewers), I requested one since I generally buy Skippy Peanut Butter (though I prefer the Super Chunk variety)..

The first thing I noticed when it arrived was that it is not “Peanut Butter”; the label calls it “Peanut Butter Spread” . I thought that might be because of the addition of honey, but it’s obviously not. The ingredients read “Peanut Butter Spread (Roasted Peanuts, Palm Oil, Peanut Oil, Salt), Sugar, Honey”. Comparing this my Super Chunk (which is called Peanut Butter on label, I see this has extra oil. (The roasted peanuts already have peanut oil in them so you are adding more fat without adding more protein.

The calorie content is the same though.

The taste is really too sweet for me (it may not be for you. Why didn’t they use the honey – rather than sugar – to sweeten it? But I will tell you that it is so thin and “creamy” that it will not tear a piece of untoasted bread as a chunky variety might.

So I could not find any benefits to switching to this variety. Just give me “peanut butter”, not a spread.

I hope you found this review both informative and helpful.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
I love natural peanut butter, and this is as close as you get to it in the major name makers. To me, this is not exactly natural. A natural jar of peanut butter ingredients list should contain only the following: Peanuts.
That's it.

But, Skippy, typically never actually peanut butter, but a "Peanut flavored spread", is usually made with hydrogenated oil, sugar, salt and peanuts. However, their "Natural" version contains palm oil, sugar and peanuts. No hydrogenated oil. The only difference in this "natural" version is a hint of honey. Basically, more sugar. Would be nice if they eliminated the sugar altogether and left the honey to be the sweetener, but honey as a sweetener would be expensive to us. If they are going to sweeten it, and want to be "natural", they should use Agave or Stevia. That would be very appealing.

I do buy these "natural" versions as they are better then the previous ones, but I typically buy all natural. The "no need to stir" claim is a big tip-off that it's not exactly natural. But when eating alone, this is fine. However, when making PB&J, there is no need for the added sugar, or honey for that matter due to the sweetness of the fruit. So if you like peanut butter flavored spread plain, this is a good choice.
