The "Old West", a corrupt sheriff, a small town hiding a secret and a ancient monster with a taste for flesh. A great and fast read. I picked it up and finished the book the next day. Loved it.

how-to on Horror Western,

This review is from: Skull Moon (Kindle Edition)
After reading Tim Curran's SKIN MEDICINE, I looked through his works for another or the same type and came across this book. SKULL MOON avoids the things *I* thought were wrong with that other book and delivers a punchy, in-your-face western with all the supernatural badassery I have since come to expect from Tim Curran. The story is clean, without entanglements or tangents that don't pay off. The idea behind the story is frightening, even more so when you look back at archeological finds that make no earthly sense. (Egyptian tar-monster, I'm looking at you.) I don't think there is anything about SKULL MOON that I would like to have seen differently, and that's a rarity for me. Kudos to TC for getting it done, and for setting the bar.

This was quite a book packed into just a few pages - practically a novella, really. I'd have enjoyed a more thorough fleshing out of some areas, but I still really enjoyed it, like almost all of Curran's books. Of the three westerns of his I've read, this one strays the furthest into supernatural horror while still being more or less a western. Good read, definitely recommended to fans of the genre or fans of Tim Curran.
