I bought the original "Skull Orchard" CD back in early 1998, when it was new. This re-mastered edition has some additional songs, plus contributions of the Burlington Welsh Male Choir on several songs. The re-mastering sounds great to me, and the choir's voices add new depth to the songs. Their contribution is quite wonderful.

Almost all of the songs are about Wales, where Jon Langford was born in 1957 and where he grew up.

The book that comes with the CD features an "A to Z of Wales," written by Mr. Langford's brother David, which fills in information on the songs and is utterly hilarious in its own right. For example, I learned that the song "Pill Sailor" is not about a sailor who takes pills, but a sailor from the town of Pill, in Wales. And, for example, there are also hilarious stories about the Langford brothers' shenanigans as kids.

Jon Langford has written a short story about whales that is the center of the book. It too is quite amusing, as those familiar with Jon Langford's songs would expect.

The book is illustrated with photographs, many by Denis Langford, the father of the family, and include family portraits. They bring out a sense of the place where the family lived. And there are many reproductions of Jon Langford's original artworks.

I strongly recommend this record/book combination to everybody who likes music, art, Wales, and stories.

Jon Langford is a rare man. He is well known as one of the nicest men in music, a rare thing these days. He also well-versed
in not only music but art. His prints are a commentary on country music and politics. This book concerns his childhood in
South Wales, growing up with brother David and father Denis, both of whom contribute to this. Also included is his album
Skull Orchard, reworked from the original with the Burlington Welsh Male Chorus.

This is a fine, fine book.
