Ok, so there's a few things you want to know for the best results with these headphones.
When I first listened to them, I kept the volume at low to medium until I used them a bit more. The bass was a bit hollow and sounded weird AT FIRST. When the bass boost is increased a bit too much, this will happen regardless. If you keep the bass boost at a reasonable level and give the headphones a chance to break in a little, the sound quality will improve tenfold. Also, the left and right letter indicators are on the inside of the ear cuffs (took me a while to find them lawl)

Now for the review:
-the auxiliary input is pretty solid and I don't see any fraying in my distant future as long as I don't hoarse them around too much. That being said, the distance between the rather heavy bass boost attachment and the input is about a foot, which sometimes isn't enough when the input is above the ground and it hangs down weird. This could lead to some risk for fraying, BUT there is a clip on the bass boost device and the proper precautions can be taken.
-Like I said above, the bass was a little hollow at first, but with more use the bass loosened up and now it sounds great. Don't let the very first test of these things deter you.
-The bass boost function is great! Without it, though, it just sounds like your average earbuds...and a loss of a AA battery can ruin your day with these headphones.
-These headphones are good for bass heavy music genres like drumstep, dubstep, bass heavy rap, any type of party and club music (especially with the bass boost on), and anything that uses long and sustained bass hits. This product is not the best when used with any instrument related genres like country, rock, heavy metal (underline that one), punk alternative, classical, etc.

The Skullcandy Skullcrusher black headphones were ordered for a teenage boy for a present. They arrived quickly and in perfect condition. The lad opened the box, hooked them up, and EXPLOSION, sound explosion was heard. They are outstanding at sound recreation, and they will go LOUD with virtually no distortion. Will be ordering another set for myself!

Ordinarily, I do not write reviews but I felt compelled to comment on this particular product. I have spent a significant amount of time over the last three weeks searching for a good pair of headphones to replace a pair of Panasonics that I have been using forever. I have scoured amazon reviews and been to many local stores checking on pricing. I own several skullcandy products and therefore somewhat trusted in the brand's quality. I decided to give these a try. I paid a great deal more than the amazon price because I bought them at a local store but was willing to pay a little more since I could test them that day. I took them out of the box and added the battery to the supposed subwoofer and was shocked and appalled by what I heard. The mids were muddy and the highs cracked. If you like a lot of bass don't bother; the subwoofer is beyond weak despite the "adjustable" feature, which really means if you want any bass at all you have to max it out. Personally, I enjoy my music loud. These headphones do not have sufficient volume for my taste. Even though they do not get very loud there is a tremendous amount of bleed from them also. Needless to say, I returned these within two hours of purchasing them. If I have not already convinced you, my brother and I compared my newly purchased skullcrushers and his ten year old pair of JVCs (which he bought for ten dollars) and his cheapy headphones put these to shame for the clarity, volume, and bass. Oh and I must also mention, I am a fairly tiny person at 5' tall and weighing about 115 pounds and these headphones were incredibly constricting. I like to wear my headphones around my neck when I am not actively listening to them and they felt like they would choke me. I could not imagine a big athletic guy putting them around his neck.Read more ›

They have good sound quality, but the plastic is a little cheep. The cable is hard to take care of on the move, but all of this is just small quibbles on a solid buy.

Long time Skull Candy user, and there's a couple things you gotta know about skullcandy. 1) break them in and 2) adjust your audio. If you just plug it in and go, you're gonna have a bad time. make sure to play it for a few hours on relatively low-medium volume and occasionally slowly turning the volume up. these have larger cones so you need to make sure that the surrounds dont break and make sure that the materials wear in correctly.

after that, make sure you adjust your audio settings to your liking (i.e. winamp is good for this, ipods and iphones and androids usually have equalizers, especially the galaxies have preset settings) and to within spec. once thats there, they're perfect.

I got mine for $5 off at Staples for $64.99, which I think is maybe on the high end. If you can get it for 55 dollars or less, then it's actually a pretty good deal.

Also, if you're a DJ, they have the swivel cup thing so you can DJ with them too and hear the bass clearly.
