One of the best sounding and looking portable speakers with an iPod dock.

1. Style
- Bought these in Chrome... but all of them are VERY sleek and VERY stylish. The cylindrical tube shape does need a bit of getting used to, and the small size is a major plus for those on the go. The nifty remote control really tops it all off- which I might add: though stated on the manual that the remote is only effective up to about 10ft, I have successfully gotten them to work at about 30-35ft away.... and now the best part...

... 2. Sound!
These are one of the BEST sounding portable speakers availible, up there with the LG MSP-100 folding speakers, which is my personal favorite. Both speaker sets are VERY loud while retaining clarity, but the Skullcandy Pipes do have a bit more on the low end/bass tones.
Running either on the AC wall adapter or AAA battery option, these babies pump out a whopping 5.6 Watts max! (Pretty Good considering their size, the LG MSP-100's only pumped out 4 Watts.)

These DO tend to distort at high volumes, but it's mainly only the low's that cause it. The Mids and Highs are still somewhat clear, but the distortion of the Lows really just ruins the music at those volumes.

Now, these do have weak lows and decent mids and decent highs.

The sound is slightly better when plugged into the wall.
As expected, the sound is only decent while on battery power.

3. Overall Opinion
These are GREAT speakers for those wanting to replace that boombox/radio sitting on their desk at home or work, and for those who want to share their music while on the go- at a picnic, or just hanging out at a party on the beach! These speakers do pack quite a surprising punch despite thier decievingly small size. The $69.99 price tag Target and some other retailers give these DOES seem a bit high, but the lower prices seen on eBay and Amazon do make a BIT more sense though sometimes a bit too low. $45-$55 seems a bit more appropriate.

BOTTOM LINE: BUY THEM! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Really happy with this product. Great sound for the price. I'm very picky on sound quality, so generally I'd prefer to pay more for better sound--but for an easily portable unit, you can't beat this little gem. The sound is bright and impressive. Given the compact size it's no surprise the weakness is in the bass range, but the trebles are very good. The only disappointment I've had is the remote does not work until you get within a 5 foot range; at that point I can just push the buttons--so the remote is nearly worthless (hence 4 and not 5 stars). Ignore reviews that complain it does not work with the iPhone; it does (listening right now). Ignore the warning message asking to go to airplane as indicated in the instructions mode by checking "no." Also, the unit charges the iPod, which is a nice bonus.

What an awesome piece of equipment. It's no Bose for sure, but for as small as it is, and the price, can't be beat. The comments I've read about not being stable is not true. an auxiliary foot pad is in the box to give support to the rear. Clips right on the battery release button. Works well with my iPhone, although don't know if there will be interference with a call. the third party seller had the unit in my hand in 3 days from CA, can't beat that, and the shipping was free thru [...]. Very pleased and look forward to traveling with such a small, but high-performing item.

OK, I must start off by saying that I never leave home without my Iphone (3Gs). Of course being one that considers the Iphone the ultimate phone device, I needed a small (portable) speaker system for travel. I own the Griffin Amplifi for home entertainment (an incredible speaker system even if it doesn't charge my Iphone). I needed something to take back and forward to the office. This little speaker system is awesome and is the perfect speaker system for me. Amazing sound is produced from this tiny tube. Just a little smaller that you average paper roll core or air freshener can, this small wonder pumps out huge sound. It's more than enough to fill a 16x16 room. The first time I played this in the office, coworkers were amazed. They couldn't believe the amount of sound coming from the Skullcandy Pipe.

Sound Quality - Since it's small, you can't expect much bass. But the clarity and loudness of the pipe is solid. The highs and mids are just perfect. The bass is good considering the size. I listen to Jazz, R&B, Hip Hop, and Neo Soul, which each genre sounds good coming from the Skullcandy Pipe. I tested many portable speaker systems at Bestbuy. There isn't one in it's class that sound as good. As long as you have an ample amount of juice flowing to the system, you will experience clear sound. If you are running the pipe on batteries, keep extra sets on hand. Once the batteries begin to weaken, distortion sets in and the clarity decreases.

Docking for Iphone - This system works perfect with the Iphone 3Gs. It charges the phone as any other Iphone docking system would. Just ignore the incompatible message that pops up during the initial docking. Just click "no" and keep it moving. I have not experienced any interference when playing my music. If a call comes through, the music pauses allowing you to take the call.

Portability - This system is excellent for travel. It doesn't take up much space at all. Just grab the pipe and roll. Haven't used it yet, but I know this would fill the average hotel room with quality sound (unlike the cheap mp3 clocks in most hotels now).

Overall - This is an excellent choice for anyone that likes nice sound, but isn't looking for a portable home theater center. At $29.95, I could not pass on this one. I purchased two pipes even though it has a limited lifetime warranty. All I can say is thanks Skullcandy!

With all the "yes it's iphone compatible" and "no, it's not compatible" mixed reviews on Amazon, I decided to drive down to Target and test it out. I almost ordered it based on the great reviews, but I did not want to take a chance with compatability. I'm glad I did. Not only did I CONFIRM it's NOT compatible with iphone 3GS from the floor model, but i also confirmed at how crappy it sounds. It is a total piece of junk compared to all the others in this price category, which is why it gets the bad review. i ran it in the dreaded "airplane mode" to test it out. It sounds like a low quality speaker that is inside a metal coffee can. It's also TINY. Which is OK, but hard to tell actual size from the pics.

Not only can I not recommend this for Iphone due to compatability (why would you even want it when there are better units at this price that ARE compatible?), but due to it's extremely poor sound quality, i could not recommend it for an ipod either. It looks cool in the pics (not in person) and that's about it.

If you want a recommendation, I bought the Sony ICF-CS10ip which is currently available on Amazon for $79 with free shipping.

I love the look, the sound and ease but if I leave my iPhone on (able to receive calls) then the interference is unacceptable so the only way I can use it is to put my phone on airplane mode. This may not be the fault of the speaker but it would have been nice to know prior to purchasing.

It works fine if the phone is in airplane mode, but then again you won't be able to use Pandora radio either. If the phone is on, the interference is unbearable and constant. You can even tell that the iPhone is searching for towers... Lousy.

I was hesitant to buy this at first only because of the price. I did go ahead and make the investment though because I liked the quality of sound after listening to the demo at my local Target, and I wanted something small for my desktop to use with my Ipod Nano. The look and size are perfect since it doesn't take up a lot of space.

It comes with an auxillary cable which can be used to plug the speakers into your computer to use with it instead of the IPod, however, quickly learned it won't run off the auxillary cable and batteries alone. After plugging it up this way, my Nano would not work. After some troubleshooting, I plugged it into the wall and unplugged the auxillary and it worked just fine.

The speakers also come with a small remote which is nice. Volume is easily controlled with a button on the front. My biggest complaint would be the on/off button being so small and on the back; this may cause people to forget its on and end up draining their batteries.

Overall, I'm very impressed and glad I bought them. Its exactly what I wanted for my Nano.

I plugged this into my iPhone 3GS yesterday and it does not work with it. The speakers produce no sound at all. At first I was fooled a bit because sounds play out of the normal speaker built into the iPhone. I am curious if previous reviewers are reporting sound quality from the iPhone or from the dock. Maybe they are using it with older models of the iPhone. I get the warning from the phone as well saying that the device is not compatible with the iPhone. Whether I choose yes or no at that menu makes no difference, the dock produces no sound. It will charge the iPhone, but the speakers DO NOT WORK with my iPhone 3GS. Do not buy this for the iPhone 3GS.

LOVE this little gadget, perfect for beach and office and on the go. Only draw back is for iphone users, I have an iphone and I have to turn my iphone to AIRPLANE mode when playing which turns off my phone. If you do not you get a VERY loud static through the speakers. Otherwise I love it.
