4.0 out of 5 stars Pay Attention to how you put these on
Most of us who use these types of headphones don't pay attention to how far we stretch the band when placing it over our head. It's really quite a lot of stress and stretch. If you pay attention then you won't have a problem.
You don't have to baby these headphones. The only weak point is the middle of the headband, which is connected by a metal screw bar...

2.0 out of 5 stars Great until they break. Repeatedly.
I got myself a pair of these after several people recommended them to me as great headphones. They look nice, and the sound quality is very good - nice and clear; no "background fuzz" like with some of Skullcandy's other headphones (I'm lookin' at you, earbuds). The folding frame was also very nice - the first pair of folding headphones I've ever seen that actually...

4.0 out of 5 stars Pay Attention to how you put these on, June 23, 2009
This review is from: Skullcandy SC-LOW/BG Lowrider Headphone (Black and Gold) (Electronics)
Most of us who use these types of headphones don't pay attention to how far we stretch the band when placing it over our head. It's really quite a lot of stress and stretch. If you pay attention then you won't have a problem.
You don't have to baby these headphones. The only weak point is the middle of the headband, which is connected by a metal screw bar.

If you pay attention to how you put them on (ie: adjust the side lengths and then slide them over your head); you'll be fine. Sound quality is good all around. Better than the earbuds you get w/ your Ipod.
Take care of this, don't wrap your cords too taunt, or fast and vigorously; this pulls the cords loose.

These are marketed as Sports Headphones on SkullCandy's website. I would say they're good for walking and maybe running. They're snug but not snug enough to stay on when bouncing, jumping, boarding etc. The best upside is that you get no "tapping" noise when touching or bumping the wires.

Pros:
- good sound
- comfortable
- Adjustable
- folds up and stores easily
- good for walking
- No wire noise

Cons:
- Not really Sports Headphones
- No Noise Reduction! (a tiny bit BETTER than regular Ipod earbuds)
only an issue when in a car or airplane
NOT an issue while walking or on the train
(tested only on BART in CA Bay Area)

- NOT for high bass listeners or hardcore music, heavy metal, Rap etc.
- A little awkward to wrap wires around the folded headphones when storing

- THE BIG ONE: head band is weaker than most NON-Foldable headphones; but still durable, provided care (what did you expect for foldys?)
bottom line: its delicate BUT NOT FRAGILE!

PS I bought the green/black from OneCall for $35. I would still trust all sellers of SkullCandy Lowriders

PSS
OH YEAH and wear these backwards ie(Right cup on Left ear). That way you can swivel the cup into your ear (much better isolation of sound). IDK why they overlooked this.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great., February 4, 2008
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Skullcandy SC-LOW/BG Lowrider Headphone (Black and Gold) (Electronics)
Sure, they don't sound any better than the headphones that came with my nano, but I got them because I freakin' hate earbuds, not for sound. Looks good, comfortable, and great for the music I listen to.
(like Gorillaz, Fall Out Boy and They Might Be Giants, which don't need much bass unlike Slipknot or SoD.) All around great product that looks good, sounds good when listening to alternative and is much more comfortable than those stupid earbuds that came with your mP3 or ipod. I'm only eleven, so don't think I have tried too many good headphones in my life, but if your are used to cheap-o headphones, this will be a treat.
4/5.

5.0 out of 5 stars awesome headphones, great buy, March 4, 2009
This review is from: Skullcandy SC-LOW/BG Lowrider Headphone (Black and Gold) (Electronics)
I have no idea what people are talking about. I bought these because my Skullcandy earbuds (great buds by the way) would fall out of my ears if I wore them snowboarding. They clamp on great and never fall off, which is awesome since I have a pretty small head and I've always had issues with over-the-head headphones sliding down or being uncomfy. the pad under the cross bar makes them super comfortable to wear and the super soft pads on the ears are fantastic.

These are great headphones that sound awesome and crank out just enough power-- not too much. I love music but I'd also like to grow old and still be able to hear, so those of you that think the bass isn't loud enough, maybe it's a good thing if you anticipate liking music in the future.

I have the black and gold ones that match my board and bindings and I can't believe I didn't buy them earlier.

The only disadvantage I'd say is that the cord is really really long. I'm 5'5 ish and if my iPod is in my pocket, the cord reaches down to my knees.

BUY THEM.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sound as Good as they Look!, March 18, 2008

Sound as Good as they Look!

First off, these headphones are stylish! I have a red ipod nano and the red headphones match it very well.
I have had problems with my ipod earbuds coming out, which is why I wanted to get a set of full headphones. I have 3 "over the head" headphones now, and these are my favorites. I've been very happy with these. The padding on the top ensures that the 'headband' part never touches or squishes your head, and the ears are well padded as well. They're very comfortable and lightweight - so comfortable you can forget you are wearing them. I often listen to music while I sleep, and I am happy to say that you can sleep comfortably in these headphones.
For the price, these headphones provide exceptional sound quality. The first time I used them with my nano I was shocked -- I never knew my ipod music could sound so good! The sound is crisp and clear. As an adult in her 40's, I'd say they sound great. They also do a great job drowning out various annoying background noises in the city - from barking dogs to fighting neighbors.
The cord is 4 feet long. I use the headphones both when I am listening to my ipod and active, and when I am seated using my laptop. This is an ideal cord length for me, I have never had a problem with the cord length being too long or too short.
They are easy to transport too. They fold flat, and easy to store and pack. They fit into a backpack or laptop case with ease.
Overall, great sound for the price!

4.0 out of 5 stars Right price, right style, January 4, 2008

Although these headphones have caused discomfort for some that I read, it is comfortable for me. These headphones are DEFINITELY designed for bass-heavy music, particularly hip-hop, rap, jungle or drum-n-bass. Heck, it handles Count Basie and his orchestra with no problem whatsoever. However, it doesn't particularly deliver rock or alternative music too well, but nothing is perfect. It's not the perfect headphone like some of the higher end stuff, but it does its job for a respectable price. Overall, it's comparable to some of its Koss brothers and recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best headphones I've ever owned, October 29, 2009
This review is from: Skullcandy SC-LOW/BG Lowrider Headphone (Black and Gold) (Electronics)
Over the last 5 years, I've gone through at least 15 pairs of headphones. They either break, something happens to the cord, or I'm just not happy with the sound quality.

Finally, I've found the perfect pair. These are the best headphones I've ever owned. I've had them for six months and they are in the same condition as when I took them out of the package. Well-made with a nice, comfortable design.

In the most important category, sound quality, these headphones deliver as well. Easily the best sound quality I've ever heard from a pair of headphones in that price range. My father, has a $300 pair of Bose headphones, similar design. I've compared the the quality of both, with the same song on the same device, and I must say the Skull Candy Low Riders actually sound better. Even if it is a matter of personal opinion, you can't deny how crisp these headphones sound for the price.

My highest recommendation!!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Like SO Many Others, these broke after just a few uses, June 15, 2009
This review is from: Skullcandy SC-LOW/BG Lowrider Headphone (Black and Gold) (Electronics)
I ordered these for my son's birthday. He wanted this particular pair/color after seeing them in a store, so I found them on Amazon and ordered them without doing any product research. After just 3 weeks and minimal use, they snapped in half like so many others have described in their reviews. I sent them back to Amazon, they said on the phone they would give me a refund....I hope so, as we have no desire for another pair of these poorly designed headphones.

1.0 out of 5 stars The folding option is not so great, May 31, 2009
This review is from: Skullcandy SC-LOW/BG Lowrider Headphone (Black and Gold) (Electronics)
I bought these because they seemed like decent headphones at a good price, and like other people here, mine snapped at the headband joint and are now useless.

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent, but too tight, April 18, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Skullcandy SC-LOW/BG Lowrider Headphone (Black and Gold) (Electronics)
For the price, the sound quality is nice. I don't have to turn my music to deafening levels to block out background noise. They fold up enough to make them compact for traveling, and they aren't very noticeable if you wear them around your neck. They seem to be pretty durable (I've dropped them several times and accidentally tugged the cord too hard), with no noticeable damage as of yet.

My main problem with these is that they are too tight. If I wear them for too long, my ears turn red. I don't know if I just have a really big head (I don't think I do), but they press hard. The padding on the phones doesn't really help relieve the pressure, either. They have become a bit more comfortable since buying them, but it'll take a while to completely break them in. If you wear glasses, they might become pressed too tightly behind your hears, so you might want to raise that part while wearing these. The headphones aren't tight enough to bother the piercings I have in my lobes, but sometimes my industrial feels like there is too much pressure... So keep that in mind if you plan on getting these.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great until they break. Repeatedly., February 5, 2009
This review is from: Skullcandy SC-LOW/BG Lowrider Headphone (Black and Gold) (Electronics)
I got myself a pair of these after several people recommended them to me as great headphones. They look nice, and the sound quality is very good - nice and clear; no "background fuzz" like with some of Skullcandy's other headphones (I'm lookin' at you, earbuds). The folding frame was also very nice - the first pair of folding headphones I've ever seen that actually conserved space when compacted. I was quite happy with them until, three months into their use, part of the frame that goes over your head broke. Just snapped, for absolutely no good reason. I'm the type of person who takes pretty good care of their things, so I was baffled. Then, while I had them waiting to be repaired (nothing a little glue and duct tape can't fix, I figured), they fell off of my desk (a 2.5 foot drop), and the frame shattered completely in a totally different place from the original break. At this point I pretty much gave up.

On top of this, I talked to the people who recommended them to me originally, and I found out that shortly after they had talked them up as being great headphones, their OWN pairs had broken as well in similar ways to how mine had.

The bottom line? These headphones sound nice, but despite their well-crafted look, they're quite flimsy and brittle. I hate to say it, but based on my experiences with a variety of their products, Skullcandy's reputation for turning out "quality products" seems to be vastly undeserved. Considering they only lasted three months before becoming unusable, I don't think they're anywhere near worth their $30 price tag. Look for better headphones somewhere else.
