Silence...,
By
This review is from: Skullcandy SC-NCL Proletariat Noise Canceling Headphones with Link (Electronics)
These headphones are amazing. I've tried other lower cost headphones that claim to be noise canceling and they do not compare. There is the slight white noise hiss that any noise canceling headphones have - but with music playing you don't notice it at all. I wear these headphones without music to silence the annoying rattle of the air-conditioner at work - and it works great. The price isn't bad either. Also I have found the LINK cable very handy to talk on my cell phone with the noise canceling turned on. I would definitely recommend these headphones.

Almost as good as BOSE QC2,

I've owned several NC headphones including the Bose QC2. These headphones do a good job noise cancelling in the low and mid frequency ranges. They have a higher frequency top end than most noise cancelling headphones. The volume conrol on the headset is a nice feature. They do fold smaller than any comparable headphone. For the money these headphones are a good deal.
If money was no object, go with the Bose QC2. If not treat your Skull to some candy...

I commute an average of 3 hours each day, round trip. I needed something to listen to that would be comfortable, deliver fairly good sound, and mask loud, annoying mobile phone conversations on the bus. The Skullcandy Proletariat headphones do all that and more. I'm no audio engineer, but I know what sounds good to me, and these headphones are much nicer than my old JVC portables (HANC100), BUT you get what you pay for.
I loaned them to my housemate who also commutes on a train for a long distance. He also gave them a glowing report as well. Great sound, NC feature works well and they are comfortable. Now, I don't see much use for the mobile phone link that comes with the headphones, but I suppose if you absolutely must speak to somebody while you're listening to your MP3-like device, this set of headphones is ready for you. Sturdy construction and they fold up, but I wouldn't describe them as truly portable, especially if you're used to jamming ear buds in your head...but they are superior to everything I've tried to date. Worth the money. Give 'em a try, especially if you're considering a $300 set of Bose or the like. NOT comparing the two, just saying the price to performance ratio is really nice.

The audio quality and the noise cancelling of these headphones is great. However, they are tight on the ears which can lead to discomfort. Also, the microphone in the "link" cable for a cellphone is fairly weak. I had to physically hold it at my mouth before the other party could hear me well.

These work like a dream; they completely mask the heavy bass tones of my neighbor's music. They also work great on the plane and indoors; I can't hear my fridge and AC with them on. Music sounds a lot better with the noise canceling feature on though. Good mid and low range but a little lacking on the high frequencies. I haven't tried the Bose QC series, but these are definitely worth it.

these head phones are as close to the Bose system that I can go.
It is about slightl less than 1/3 the price but they do the trick. I am very pleased with my purchase.

I purchased these phones mainly for blocking the noises when I work in the datacenter, where thousands of servers humming together. After several days usage of these phones, I am pretty satisfied. They definitely don't cancel out all the noises in the server room considering the magitude of the noise, I guess nothing can completely cancel that big noise all off. But they did decrease the noise to a level I could bear, and with some music on, I am happy enough. By switching on and off the noise canceling button, I could feel the BIG difference. This is my first set of noise canceling phones, I might go try the BOSE later on to see if BOSE would have better performance, and if that difference can justify the big price difference.
I also use them in office, at home. Under those circumstances, I am a lot happier than using them in server rooms. Even addicted to using them all the time. You'll be surprised how noisy our world is when you took them of f your ears. I also love the cool folding design, you can fold them up to put in a small bag to carry on.

Pros:
1. Seems to be well constructed ... time will tell! 2. Good sound quality 3. Equally good noise canceling capabilities....if you're looking for tomb-like silence, then you'll be better off with industrial strength sleep medication. No NC headphones are 100% sound insulating (which is a good thing) 4. Works in standard (i.e. non NC) mode even without batteries Cons: 1. Takes 2 AAA batteries (and not 1 AA as mentioned in the product description) 2. A little tight around the ears -- probably need to get used to it 3. While the 'skull cap' style bag looks avant garde enough for a high school teenager, I would have preferred a more solid travel kit ... common guys, it can't be THAT much more expensive!

swap low frequencies for high,

all good 'cept for the noise cancelling which does remove low frequencies, but impinges on the sound a bit and ads white noise at a higher pitch.
