An excellent project for your child's school report. We purchased the Velociraptor kit for our 8 year old daughter not knowing what to expect. After opening the package my wife came up with a clever idea of pouring melted chocolate chips it into the dinosaur molds, instead of using the plaster mix. We experimented with white chocolate chips and created realistic looking dinosaur bones! We buried these edible bones in ground up Oreo Cookies. What a thrill to see our daughter's 2nd grade class excavate these delectible prehistoric fossils!

My son (now almost 6) has been a dinosaur fanantic since the age of 2. He knows the names, where they lived, what they ate...you name it, he knows it! Or so we thought, until he got this for Christmas! After having a great time making and painting the "fossil" he read in the manual that each bone has it's own name--so now we're learning those as well! The only problem we have with it is when the smaller pieces get dropped on a hard surface they tend to break pretty easily. They are, however, also fixed easily with a dab of super glue.

We loved this toy. It is a great project toy--something best suited for several leisurely days on the porch. We cast the mold one day, then painted the next day. We glued on our magnets a third day and later that day we built the dinosaur. (Magnets hold the beast together). My child is six so perhaps an older kid would have a longer concentration block, but doing a project in a series of steps is a great tool for those hours where some downtime is needed.

The casting compound is the best I've used, much better than plaster of paris.

This is rather amazing, as I didn't realize that my son was as interested in fossils and dinosaurs as he is. He is so thrilled with his project, we are now spending lots of time at the library finding all sorts of information pertaining to this subject. He seems to be more interested in all his subjects at school. What a surprise to all of us!!

I BOUGHT THIS FOR MY EIGHT YEAR OLD FOR CHRISTMAS WITH A BUNCH OF THE "WHATS POPULAR NOW" TOYS. THIS BY FAR IS THE TOY THAT HAS KEPT HIS ATTENTION FOR MORE THAN A FEW MINUTES. MORE LIKE NEARLY 2 HOURS THE FIRST TIME WE TOOK IT OUT. IT ALSO KEPT MY 6 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER AND THE EVERY ADVENTEROUS 4 YEAR OLD BUSY. I HAD TO KEEP DAD FROM DIGGING AND DUSTING OR ELSE THE KIDS WOULDN'T HAVE GOTTEN A TURN. AFTER FINDING THREE BONES - I TOLD THEM IT WAS TIME TO PUT IT AWAY AND SAVE IT FOR ANOTHER DAY. MY HUSBAND WOULDN'T QUIT FOR ANOTHER 30 MINUTES UNTIL THEY HAD FOUND AND UNEARTHED ONE MORE BONE. THEY HAVE MANY HOURS OF FUN LEFT WHICH IN RETURN WILL GIVE THEM AN ADDED BONUS--NOT ONLY ARE THEY HAVING FUN; BUT ARE LEARNING AT THE SAME TIME!! ONE CONSIDERATION IS THAT IT DOES SAY FOR AGES 8 AND ABOVE, BUT MY 4 YEAR OLD HAD HIS SUN GLASSES ON AND MANAGED QUITE WELL. HIS ONLY PROBLEM WAS GETTING DAD OUT OF THE WAY!!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

I got this for my dino crazy 5 yr old and we have been very pleased with it. I highly recommend this toy..Basically you cast the plaster of paris when it is set you paint it glue magnet on the back to make it kind of a puzzle. what is interesting is that the box comes with information about the bones.....and that is an added value in itself.

This is a great kit for casting a dinosaur skeleton. It is easy to mix, and comes out of the mold looking great. It is somewhat difficult to pour, so I would advise using a large spoon to fill the small openings.Please be advised this is not a complete skeleton, just one side. The price on Amazon was very reasonable; even better than the crafts stores with their discount coupon.

This was a fun toy for my son. He really enjoyed "digging" up the dinosaur bones and then being able to assemble them/ put them together and paint them. Of course the T-Rex was his favorite out of the selection!! The dino bones are very sturdy and we really enjoyed burying them just to be "pretend explorers" and dig them up again. Great fun, great experience, great education factor!!

This kit was very neat and my 9 year old nephew found it fun and interesting. The only problem was it only came with the one small booklet of instructions, and it was missing the diagram on assembling the "bones" once they were cast. I got on the company's website tonight and wrote them about the problem, so we'll see how long it takes them to respond. The casting material works well, and dries quickly. We are excited to get the diagram, paint the bones, and put them together.

I bought this for my 4 year old because he loves dinosaures.......the directions were quite easy and there was just enough of the plaster mixture to make one complete set of bones. I think that the impressions are very sophisticated and the mold itself is high quality. For dino lovers, there so many other things you can do with these molds (make chocolate, play-doh).....but we love it for it's intended use: Making them into magnets. It's a great little project you can do over and over again........The paint pots that come with it are adequate and a separate gloss medium is a very thoughtful item to put into this kit. The little booklet of dino info is simple but also just as adequate. I bought this kid for around [......] and i think it was well worth it.
