What came first--the shark or the dinosaur? You guessed it, the shark. Did you know that the hammerhead shark is immune to a stingray's poison? The Eyewitness Shark Kit gives children hands-on learning about one of the most mysterious and feared creatures on earth. Inspired by the colorful photography in the Eyewitness book, Shark, this kit includes one shark tooth and everything you need to create painstakingly detailed molds of great white, thresher, and hammerhead sharks. The enclosed instruction booklet contains amazingly informative reading about each type of shark. Using the plasterlike PerfectCast molding material, kids cast their favorite shark, paint it, and then attach magnets to display their 7-inch masterpiece on the refrigerator. Parents will want to advise children that their painting efforts probably won't match the professionally rendered examples in the book. --Lisa Whipple

My 6 year old loved it.

I would recommend an adult help to mix the clay because it sets very fast.

This shark kit has been the highlight of my son's (age 7) study of the undersea world. The instructions were easy to follow and the reward was almost instant! It takes just 30 minutes for the mold to initially "set" and just two more hours for it to be ready to paint. The information regarding sharks in the packet was very informative, causing my son to say "Wow, I didn't know that!" My son and I have really enjoyed this product!

Had fun making this kit with my daughter. She loves sharks. I measured the "ingredients" and she mixed. We read the booklet while the casting was setting. It was informative, but my know-it-all seemed to know what I was getting ready to read next. Very basic information she had heard before. She painted them up nicely and were ready to display within a week. The hammerhead was very large and there was not enough magnet provided to hold it up. We will include some type of hangar into the cast material next time. They are not for play and end up just being decorations.

This was great! My son LOVED it. Must have patience to wait for the plaster to dry, so have some "shark" learning in between. Be extra careful with the finished product. My son dropped one but, luckily, there were 3. Overall a fun project.

It's just a flat plastic mold to pour plaster into. One side of the shark will be flat. Not the cool 3D model with two sides you see in the picture. But will make a reasonably good fridge magnet. Just not what I was looking for. Picture is misleading.

My 7 year-old son received this as a Christmas gift, and he loves it. I mix the plaster and water and pour it into the mold, then after 40 minutes he paints it and displays the finished product. There are molds for three different types of sharks -hammerhead, thresher, and great white. There are also molds for three different sized sharks teeth. We've made models of each of them, and they've turned out great each time!

My 9 year old son is really artsy and really into sharks. We got him this kit for Christmas and he LOVED it. A tip for getting the plaster to spread without a mess into all the nooks and crannies: Lightly touch the bottom side with a shaver or hair clipper (something that vibrates) and the plaster spreads effortlessly and leaves no air bubbles.

I guess this isn't so much of a toy, as it is like a display piece. It is pretty much glass, so playing with it should either be done carefully, or with the knowledge that you might lose a fin or two.

The directions were really easy to follow. Everything turned out great with little to no time. We didn't use the magnets, but those are a really neat idea for using your new sharks.

My 8 yo son is an animal lover. He loves sharks too. I bought this for him for Christmas and he loved being able to create his own shark and paint it. The shark's teeth were the coolest to him. I would recommend an adult help to mix the clay because it sets very fast.
