With a name like skwoosh and "gel" in the title, I was expecting something much, well, squishier. I was sorely (literally) disappointed. This pad gave no more padding than a folded towel! I returned it immediately. I assure you, if you're looking for padding, this is NOT going to please you! I searched under Home and Garden, picked a great "Thick Garden Kneeling Pad" and am thrilled at 1/3 the price.
******Update****** I wanted to give huge props to Amazon for great customer service! Speedy return process, prompt credit to my card, really great customer service - lacking in today's society, but really evident at Amazon!

What it's good for, what it's not....,

I would like to point out what I think is the reason for the discrepancy in the reviews of this product. First of all, I mostly row (in a single scull) but sometimes I erg (on a Concept 2 ergometer, aka "rowing machine".) And I do own this product, which I purchased from a rowing website.
Some of the people who have reviewed this product row on water, and some erg on a machine. The people who erg tend to like the pad, and when I erg I like it too - the Concept 2 seat is kind of hard. And it seems as though the people who row (ie. on water) do not like the pad in the boat, and for me, I don't either. I wear quick-dry compression pants, which tend to be sort of slick, and so my rear slides around a little on the Skwoosh seat. The boat seat has two holes where one's "sit bones" go, which tends to alleviate pressure. I like the holes. If you are using the pad, the holes in the seat are covered up, plus for me, I don't feel connected to the boat if I'm using the pad. And if you row with much pressure, you will rise up a little off the seat during the drive, so feeling connected is important, in my opinion. Bottom line: I like the pad for the Concept 2, I do not like the pad when I am rowing (ie. on the water.) It appears that that is the consensus among the reviewers.

initially i was not terribly happy with the cushion as it didnt seem to provide much relief at the expense of changing my position in the boat somewhat. however, following repeated trials i decided that for me what the cushion does is just different from what i expected it to do. again, for ME, the pad isnt that much more comfortable than my bare seat but if i row for 1.5 hour with bare seat and my butt starts aching there is no going back, my butt will hurt all the way home no matter what i do. if i row for 1.5 hour with the pad i just have to lay down in the boat and take pressure off for a few minutes and i am good to go. so i give two thumbs up.

The pad did not seem gel like as I thought it would be. Give some confort to the prominences of the but but tends to slide around on the seat. Need some sort of attachment mechanism.

Skwoosh gel seat for Concept2 rower,

Purchased my gel pad to complete a challenge row on the Concept2 website. The factory standard seat is a bit hard and long rows become uncomfortable without some padding.
The gel pad performs as advertised and definitely provides more padding, especially for pressure points. It takes a while to figure out where to position the pad on the rower seat, but once in place, makes rowing much more comfortable. Completed 1/2 marathon on 4/28 with no discomfort.

So, I bought this to go with my Concept2 for my wife. I don't mind the hard seat on the Concept2 but it bothered her.
Well, I get this Skwoosh seat expecting something like a Dr. Scholl's for my butt. Alas, I was disappointed. It hurt to use this much more than the hard seat somehow. It isn't squishy/gelly/comfortable at all. It is so not-squishy that I thought mine had sprung a leak and the gel had oozed out or something. For $40, I expected something MUCH MUCH better.

Works for sculling,

I have been using the Skwoosh master row pad for 1-2 weeks now (about 8 times). I have used it only for sculling in a variety of boats and find that it provides relief and prevents me from bruising my butt bones. (I am petite and apparently have a bony butt.) It stays in place even when doing powerful strokes and lifting slightly off the seat. I've been using it in hot, humid weather. The added height from the pad was minimal and did not negatively impact my rowing technique. The entire pad is not made of gel and it is not very squishy gel. If you are looking for something like that, my rowing partner tells me that jlrowing offers that kind of product. Instead, the gel in the Skwoosh pad seems a bit thicker. The pad material appears durable, but only time will tell.

I have a Kettler LS Ergo rowing machine and although the seat is rather cushy I needed more padding. I was surprised that after 40 minutes of rowing my backside and back felt fine. It must be the placement of the gel pads. I do think this is rather pricey but because it worked I didn't return it. Also it does stay put while I'm rowing but when I get up it moves so I bought some velcro straps and secured it to the seat.

Bought this for my brand new Concept 2 rower, but haven't applied it yet. So far, don't seem to need it. Product looks good and will be stored away to apply on the rower seat should it ever be needed.
