This fellow L'Amour knew his western People:

"Because folks in Wyoming and Colorado didn't take much pushing. It's in their nature to dig in their heels and push back."

In the last page of chapter 16: "We taken the job."

The dialect is authentic: somewhere an east coast English professor is rolling over in his grave!

The Western novel is somewhat like a comic book in it's exaggeration of

it's heroes,but the form is as much American as Jazz...

L'Amour, teaching boys how to be men for over 40 years. I made the mistake of reading alot of Louis L'Amour in high school. All the characters in his books are 6'3" in their socks, which is kinda funny, but not likely. Americans weren't growing tall like that until the scandinavians arrived in the late 19th century.

Interesting story, this one. Of course, I loved the characters. Well-meaning fellas the sacketts. Might have taken on a job a bit too big for their britches in Sky liners though. Escorting a teenager from Tennessee to Colorado. They were broke when they took the job, but I would have advised against it.
