This compilation of poems by Lee Bennett Hopkins takes the reader through the skies from sun rise to sunset. The extremely vibrant pallette of colors used in the illustrations by Mariusz Stawarski meshes well with the text. Poets included in this mini anthology include Sarah Hansen, Lyn Littlefield Hoopes, Lee Bennett Hopkins, Ashley Bryan, Alice Schertle, Ann Whitford Paul, Rebecca Kai Dotlich, Tony Johnston, Tennessee Williams, Avis Harley, Georgia Heard, David McCord, Carl Sandburg and James Guthrie.
From The Rose Tattoo:
There is something wild in the air,
no wind, but everything's moving . . .
And I can hear the star-noises. Hear them?
Hear the star noises?
-- Tennessee Williams
This soft and soothing compilation of poetry will delight the reader. This book could easily lend itself to having students learn more about the skies, astronomy and our solar system. In the text things like the Orion, the Big Dipper and other celestial bodies are mentioned or seen in the illustrations. This is a beautiful book that, if you are interested in introducing poetry to your classroom or library shelves, you might want to consider!
