These poems are childlike in their simplicity, but have a hidden depth that often emerges only with a third or fourth reading. Most of the selections center on night themes such as dreams or bedtime rituals. Many are humorous and some are serious, yet all touch on matters of concern to children. Whether discussing the circus, nightcrawlers, or being tucked into bed with a teddy bear, Hillert catches the true emotions of a child.
