Forget the kids just buy it for yourself. Well, this being a (toy ) and expensive at that I found that starting out with a basic slow practice before you go high flying is a good thing.

The sky viper will almost go out of eyesight when going straight up so I really recommend a very large open area when flying outside. It comes with some spare parts and a good manual. Depending how much power you use it can a fly several minutes (4-5) hovering or around 3-4 minutes or so in full power. It will take practice to fly it and I would not fly this in any wind. With the foam bumper off,it flies better and is much more responsive and can fly in a little wind but I would get your practice in before you fly without the foam bumper.

It recharges in about 30 minutes . Has advanced settings for the pro and goes up, down left or right also has a stunt mode enabling one to do barrel roles and spin it clockwise or counterclockwise . So I recommend this to the person who has a VERY large area to fly this and an area where there is no wind. It can break if crashed hard. although the Styrofoam can be fixed easily with a drop of glue or the fixit tape given in the box.

One more added note; When flying outside and foam off, use the advanced settings for a more quick response. This will keep the quad copter more responsive when you really need it. Trust me on this.

I was skeptical when I bought this, but having prior experience with helicopters led me to try it out. First off, these things are mass produced, so if you get a bad motor or a wire gets disconnected, don't lose you're cool, just take it back and get a new one. I've had to self-repair more than one copter, but that just goes with the ownership of a high tech, semi-fragile toy. I got mine at Target at the same price. It has the bumpers for indoor flight, however, if this is your first copter period or your first quad, then I'd head to the local park. Some place wide open with minimal people would be perfect for a first flight. I have flown it with and without the bumpers and I like to fly it without the bumpers for better control. It only comes with one battery, and the flight time is around 10 minutes. I've flown these before, so I ordered extra batteries. They are 3.7v 500mAh 25C. They have a red two prong connector. It is a ton of fun to fly. Expect to have to trim it out to fly perfect or as close to perfect as you can get it. It doesn't hover motionless on the first try, but then I didn't expect it to. After several flights and several crashes, I'm happy to report it's very durable, and almost every crash I've had it without the styrofoam bumpers on. No complaints here at all. My only issue is the color scheme. The green blades are so dark that at a distance it's hard to tell which direction it's flying, with no way to tell which way it's facing it could get away from you in a hurry. Some quadcopters have LED's that let you know which way is which. White for the front, or red for the rear. This model doesn't have that feature. I just happened to have one of those low profile LED safety lights that just straps to the handle bars of a bicycle.Read more ›

Awesome little copter at a reasonable price. Great performance, easy to fly and perform the stunts. Fly inside and out. Comes with everything you need, multiple body options, a set of replacement propellers and even a little screw driver to swap out blades. Impressively durable so far. I've dropped it from pretty high up to avoid sticking it in trees and its still working just fine.

I just got this Sky Viper for Christmas and I love it.

Do be careful with the 'flight sensitivity' setting. I tried it on the "beginner" (least sensitive) setting; it pretty much makes the copter uncontrollable. The sensitivity setting changes how far the copter will let you tilt it in flight; and the beginner setting makes it so you can barely move the thing at all. The throttle is unaffected by the sensitivity setting.

While the sensitivity setting allows you to adjust how far the copter will tilt in flight (and setting it to the max will let you tip it just about horizontal, very tough! Keep it in the middle at first), the switch for body on or off actually changes how quickly the copter responds. I find leaving it set to 'off', even indoors, is easier to control; it responds to your commands much quicker. It's almost eerie, it's instant!

Keep in mind that the copter doesn't have any form of altitude control (none of them do that I know of), so flying indoors, you will have to constantly make minute adjustments to the throttle to keep it hovering somewhat level. I tended to overcorrect at first; making it shoot up then drop, etc; be gentle!

I've crashed it several times, but nothing has broken yet. Controls work well and are very responsive; I have been landing on things all over the house, and terrorizing our dog (she barks until it gets close, then runs away).

Controlling it is tough; I don't recommend it for young children (I'm a 27 year old who acts like he's 12) because I expect it will result in frustration and broken quadcopters. I wouldn't get it for a kid under 8-10 years old.

Battery lasts around 10 minutes, and recharges in less than an hour (haven't actually timed it).
