Product Description

This is a big, friendly horse of a telescope you can ride off into the sunset with, and then thrill to well resolved celestial views when twilight fades. The SW 10" DOB is an very satisfying telescope to own, an instrument that will provide a lifetime of continuing exploration of the heavens. This telescope will hit the sweet-spot for many amateurs, providing all the capability and value you are seeking in a large aperture telescope. Sky-Watcher's revolutionary truss-support concept allows the optical tube's front and back cells to collapse together, aligning on the truss support rods which can then be locked down for easy and secure telescope transport. This one piece, low-hassle OTA design is mechanically simple and results in a large aperture telescope that can be reasonably handled and transported by one individual. This innovation gives Sky-Watcher users tremendous functional ease-of-transportability.

This really is all the telescope you will ever need! Absolutely worth every penny! The base is slightly too cumbersome to make this scope as portable as I would have liked (although it is still very portable for someone that doesn't live in a second floor apartment! :)) but the ease of use and ease of set up makes up for it. I am currently a beginner but in the process of studying for my BSc. in Astrophysics and this scope will accompany me through every level of study and beyond.

I bought this on the advice of an online astronomer who recommends this type of telescope for a beginner.Firstly, this thing is heavy. Imagine a suitcase with a rock collection in it. So you are going to need something to move it around before you throw your back out. Don't do what I did and buy the Orion dolly made for this type of telescope. Their dolly is too fragile for the weight of this thing and stops even on a thin carpet. Try a 4-wheeled heavy duty hand truck which is what I use. Secondly, I have found this really hard to collimate despite using a laser collimator. I've found the bolts on the outside come-off while trying to adjust the secondary mirror. And the collimation just does not hold even for a little while. So don't be fooled by people telling you collimation is easy. If they say this, they are probably not beginners. So after having this telescope for a number of weeks, I have not even been able to look at the moon. By contrast, the Celestron Smith-Cassegrain C5 spotting scope I own works fine and has never needed collimation despite being taken out every night. It is also light enough to move easily. If I had it to do again, I would simply buy a Celestron Evolution or some other modern goto scope. I want to enjoy the thrill of looking at objects not playing around with a heavy, difficult to move telescope that has no goto capacity.

Wonderful, initial, exploratory scope!
I bit clunky to move around, but otherwise, very nice scope to start with and hopefully graduate to a new style and size.
Moon views are extraordinary, and so far Jupiter and moons look very bright and clear--think most people expect NASA-like views, but not going to happen with this or any other amateur scope I am afraid...
My early 20's daughters come out and sky-watch and that's worth more than what I paid for this fine scope...
Enjoy!

Pros : Collimation Is Easy, Focus Is A Brease, Quality Lenses, Strong Construction, Easy to Use, Finder Scope Is Great
Cons : You Should Have A Dolly

Well this is my first 10" scope, and I have lucked into a telescope that is reasonably priced, and has had a lot of thought put into it's design. First off, it has a low profile camera adapter that comes with it so you have plenty of back focus for shooting pictures. you will need a T-ring for your camera. secondly, you can move the primary closer to the secondary with out modification. That is why the trusses are straight not angled. thirdly, it is bright, day or night. A very well built telescope. BTW, they don't advertise these features and I can't figure out why, to me these are selling points. I am very happy with it. Having to use a dolly is not really a complaint, I knew this was a big telescope, It weighs about 40 lbs. I did find I needed a counter weight at the back of the tube, I added 4 lbs with 2 bungee cords, I use a wrist weight for exercising for the weight. It can be move up and down the tube for adding or taking attachments on and off and is all cloth covered.

Still setting up. Not for the pure novice though it seems like a great product. Will update as I learn.
