Thank You,
By A Customer

Thank you Love Tractor for producing one of the most beautiful and original albums by any artist of the past 5 years. It is about time these guys got the credit they deserve as one of the pioneers of American Alt Rock and The Sky at Night proves (once again) that Love Tractor is light years ahead of the pack. Not only does this recording sound like nobody else (which is entirely refreshing), but you can believe the fact that less original bands are already lining up to cop their sound! James Chicago

...pull that plow!,
By Charles Cutshall (Dulles, VA United States) - See all my reviews

If you've read as many of these reviews as I have, you can get a little tired of all the adulation heaped upon bands that are really just average (except to their fans, that is). OK, I'll concede that music is a personal thing, and if you have a taste for [junk], then you should be permitted all of it that you can imbibe. But, PLEASE don't tell me something is a musical masterpiece if it's just ordinary stuff! This is NOT ordinary; it's extraordinary, and I'm no Love Tractor fan! Believe every word written by previous reviewers. The production is truly superb. You can feel the sound of acoustic guitar strings being plucked; the subtle silence between notes. The only album I've heard which has better production is Hank Dogs, but I won't get into that here. Suffice to say that this is not wall of sound stuff, or ambient noodlings either. The song-writing is excellent. The tunes flow with the lyrics rather than fighting each other (as often happens when one person writes the music and another the words). "Christ among the Children" is outstanding in this regard. This CD will grab you and pull you in, to the point where you're only disappointment will be that the disk isn't longer. Buy this NOW!

Not a bad track in the bunch!,

Okay, I admit it, I'm a fan. I have been following Love Tractor since it was a party band at the University of Georgia (God, has it been twenty years already!), always impressed with their unique sound. It's been WAY too long since their last recording, but this one is worth the wait. The guitar playing is delightful, and the production value on this CD is absolutely world-class. This is a tight group with an engaging style. This is perfect roll-down-the-window-and-drive-with-the-volume-turned-up summer road travelling music. Great stuff, highly recommended.

I've been a passenger on the Love Tractor musical ride since their first album (an instrumental masterpiece). I live in Thailand so I don't get exposed to the latest indie sounds anymore. Checking the net late last year, I was so excited to see that Love Tractor had recorded again. I ordered this album from Amazon and after repeated listenings, I'm totally blown away. This could be the band's finest effort yet. It is certainly their deepest and most intriguing work. Some of the songs take a while to sink in, but that's the beauty of them. And there is a lot of beauty to be found. No throwaway pop ditties or feedback-laden nonsense. Just great music and great tunes. Melodic and atmospheric. By all means, get this album!

Simply astonishing!,

Based on the strength of their past albums, I had high hopes and high expecations for "The Sky at Night" (Love Tractor's first new album since 1988's "Themes From Venus"). My hopes and expectations were blown out of the water. This is a perfect, perfect album, with gorgeous compositions, arrangements, and performances. The sound itself is astounding, featuring easily the best recording and mixing of any of their albums. Honestly, it's been years since I've heard something so meticulously crafted yet fresh and airy. Beautiful melodies and harmonies combine with intricate, lively playing for a thoroughly unique and refreshing listening experience. I hope it's not another 13 years until their next album, but if the next one is this good, it'll be worth the wait. Love Tractor deserves to be noticed. If you've liked their past releases, you're in for a real treat. If you've never heard of them before, today's your lucky day! WOW!

One of the 10 best of the year without a doubt,

I never write reviews... except that this album is SO GOOD I had to share a few words. Gorgeous, haunting, melodic, 80's paisley power pop brought into the 00's. If you are a jaded music fan, and/or like early REM, Guadacanal Diary, Game Theory or the Loud Family, you should love this one.

Wow, amazed to hear a new release from Love Tractor!I just happened to be looking on amazon.com and I wanted to see if there were any re-issues of early Love Tractor stuff on CD. And I saw that a new CD was coming out in a week! Talk about timing! Well it's out now! The new CD is fantastic. I just got it today. laid back, spacey, mellow but quirky, with energy, catchy. I love it. Fans don't be scared! Welcome Love Tractor back!

Great overlooked album,

This is one of Love Tractor's best records.
It should be alot more popular. I think people just wanted poor old Mike and Mark to keep making their first album over and over again. Artists have to grow and change folks! Buy this one now, and make your ears and brain very happy.

Weird songs, slow arpeggios, dreamy vocals. Sounds a lot like Love Tractor! The bottom line: when you're in the mood for this, or to hear something different, nothing else will do.

ugly cover, sweet music,

the first thing i thought when i saw this cd was "oh...wow, this is the band who did that Themes From Venus album a long time ago...cool." the second thing i thought was "i have never seen an album cover with worse layout and graphic design. it would have been difficult to make this look any uglier!" but this is a pretty cool cd, not as embraceable as their past work, but full of some sweet gems like "Christ Among The Children" and "Palace Of Illusion." Love Tractor's jangly pop sounds just as relevant as it did in their heydey, but the heavy presence of keyboards gives The Sky At Night a less urgent and heartfelt tone...resulting in a lack of sparkle in some of these songs... but overall, not bad.
