Well, I've only read a few chapters so far, but I'm already disappointed. I expected the clans to be building up again, but it seems as if they're just crumbling down (WARNING: SPOILER ALERT!) Sorreltail, a favorite of mine, had died - along with Icecloud, Toadstep, Hazeltail, Hollyleaf, Ferncloud, and many other favorites. Bramblestar seems okay at times, but other times it's just plain annoying - Squirrelflight and Bramblestar act as if they've done nothing together, as if because of one lie that Squirrelflight kept for her sister, Bramblestar only thinks of her as clan deputy. All the time when Squirrelflight and was speaking to him, I thought that Bramblestar would at least have a bit of emotional connection with her, but instead, so far, he doesn't even think of her.
I also think the deaths we're just too many. I expected a whole new series that shaped the clans, and I think Firestar shouldn't have died. He was the first ever character to come, people learn to love the cat, and then he dies. I honestly was a bit disappointed when the point of view changed from Firestar to Brambleclaw. I suppose I knew it was going to happen someday, but Firestar was always a favorite. They could have at least sent a sign that it was Bramblestar's turn, and Firestar was sent as either a regular clan mate again or an elder. I was very heart-broken and disappointed. I don't really want to read it much more with the present clans. Bramblestar doesn't feel like a fit leader to me at all...
All in all, I felt as if the clans are crumbling, many favorite cat's have died, and that I wish this book was better. I actually don't exactly think that Bramblestar should have ever been chosen for Thunderclan deputy. In my opinion, instead of this, there should've been an all new series.
I'm a fan of Warrior Cats, no doubt, and I've even started making my own series. But this book so far has really disappointed me, and left a bitter taste in my mouth. I was really captivated on the Last Hope, and I always knew there would be some deaths, but Firestar's death has left me kind of... disappointed and heart-broken.
Anyway, I'm sure some will enjoy this book but others will feel otherwise.
