5.0 out of 5 stars Great game, Highway robbery on the price November 23, 2011

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
ALL Skylanders figures retail for 7.99. Paying anything more is insane! These retailers are not listed by Activision as retial points for Skylander's figures... therefore they are hunting them down at their local Gamestop (where I found a shelf FULL of Hex, Wrecking Ball, and Dino-Rang), Best Buy, Target (who carries the exclusive Whirlwind), or Walmart (who carries the exclusive Drill Sergeant), and then jacking them up by 3... 4... 5 times the price!

Don't reward this kind of behavior... just make the rounds and you will turn them up. And don't think these "rare" figures are any better... the game is a load of fun, but not exactly challenging and all you need to get everything on each level is a little patience and one figure of each element. Just to get to the end and beat the final boss requires nothing more than the figures that came with the game.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hex December 23, 2011
By Ekimmak
Edition:Hex
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
Hex, overall, is a surprisingly useful character for anyone looking to add to their collection. For a start, she's an undead skylander, which doesn't come with any of the starter packs. If you need this element, I recommend her.

At first, she doesn't seem like much. She can shoot magic at enemies, or slowly summon skulls which rain down on enemies. It doesn't seem like much, but her secondary ability has an interesting feature. It attacks from the sky, meaning it can bypass a lot of the level, attacking enemies who can't even see you yet. The range isn't infinite, but very nice, and with a few upgrades, becomes an excellent defence as well as an offence.

Her third ability is to create a wall of bones to block her from attack, giving you time to either snipe them off, or cast your skull attack. What impressed me was that if you get close to them, they lower, to allow you passage, but rise up again afterwards. They don't last too long, and they can be destroyed, but it's a cool trick, giving you a way to block off enemy pursuit, but allowing you to escape. It takes a while to cast, but that can be upgraded. The correct upgrade shortens the time it takes to cast, along with damaging enemies who try to get close.

All in all, Hex is an excellent Skylander who can bring something new to any collection. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fierce and Powerful Female Character January 9, 2012
Edition:Hex
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Playing video games has always been a fun activity for my husband and son to do together, but I never really got into any of the games. Then we got the Skylanders game/set for Christmas, and it has quickly become a family obsession. This game has been a lot of fun, and something my 7 year old, my husband, AND I have all enjoyed playing together.

Hex was the first figure we purchased outside of the original characters that come with the starter set. She was the figure we were most looking forward to collecting. I loved the idea of getting a female character. I like the idea of reinforcing that you can have a fierce looking, powerful girl character and that these adventure games are not just boy-centric. We picked up Hex in a 3 pack that included Hex, Dino Rang, and Zap (will review those characters separately).

Now, our first impression right out of the box was disappointing: Hex just wasn't that impressive. We had been used to playing the starter characters like fast shooting Trigger Happy, Fire Breathing Spyro, and Gil Grunt with his ability to swim around and access areas that others can't get to. After them, we found Hex to be slow to attack and slow to run/dodge bad guys.

Her primary power (A Button) is to shoot magic orbs, and her secondary power (B Button) is to *slowly* cast a spell that summons ghostly skulls that attack/rain down from the sky (I think to start there are 2 skulls that rain down). The nice thing about her secondary power is that the skulls rain down from the sky, so you don't have to be right on top of the bad guys in order to attack. So if Hex can attack an enemy while standing safely on a bridge or behind a pillar, she's all set.

When we got Spyro's Adventure we all had our sights on Hex, she looks cool, has some neat looking moves and has a great personality and her voice actor suits her. Unfortunately that's all there is too her. I was the first to get her and I wanted so badly to like her but she has too many flaws. Pokémon players will understand when I say that she's like the Magikarp of the Skylander world, she's wimpy and a pain to level

Her defenses are what literally slay her, she has bad defenses, very weak, her bone fence will get taken out by tankier enemies easily and she dies quickly in a mob of anything but the weakest of enemies. If you decide to get her and play with her then get her hats and charms to ramp up her defenses or you will die a lot.

Her attack isn't much better, you have to power up her skull rain attack and while she's not the only Skylander who does this, she gets her attacks off slowly even with upgrades and there's a delay between when you push the attack button and when she launches her attack and it only takes an enemy bumping into you to disrupt it, her accuracy and critical hit is cruddy.

She's not a slow character when it comes to just moving around

Upgrades, hats and charms don't help her much and it's difficult to try to boost her stats in Cali's Challenges, Brock's Arena Challenges and I wouldn't recommend her in PvP mode.

I got rid of my Hex because I was just frustrated and disappointed and while the character mold looks good her arms are prone to ripping if your not careful. I had to have mine glued because her rubbery, thin arm got a tear in it.

Trust me, there are better Skylanders to get for your money.
