BT states he is the inventor of the beat-free breakdowns in the modern dance music scene, so I accept he is considered one of the front-line professionals in the deployment of them when it comes to this genre.

Skylarking reminds me of walking down a sandy sunlit beach, and then BAM out of nowhere, you get ninja-kicked in the head and the guy disappears into thin air. With this example, you're left saying, "But isn't there more to the story?"

Sadly (and honestly), I don't think that this record is appropriate, nor has it ever felt complete or does it resolve to a listener. I believe this is because it begins in a break section and slowly climbs out of smoky synth-filters over the next few minutes to a finish. BT invented the breakdown - it fits where it fits - but it doesn't cut the mustard as a single, I think.

My first impression when I heard this single was literally, "Did the whole song download right on my amazon player?" We knew the upcoming #ASAW album was going to feature a full-length mix and I was sad that one of the singles (this record) was just a breakdown section. When ASAW released, I was not shocked that Skylarking "was what it was"... A breakdown sold as a single.

I was really let down that THIS somehow was a single, yet the freebies on SoundCloud were ten times better -- and sounded complete, or perhaps "resolved". I completely appreciate the time, art, blood, sweat and tears that go into music, even more so when one of Dance Music's "Founding Fathers" steps into the ring with experimental material, but when it comes to experimental material "You gotta break some eggs to make an omelette."

#ASAW freakin' smokes. Just go get the whole album and you'll be fine. It's high-BT-art at the pinnacle of his career. You'll be impressed.
