The Skyline Outdoor RC Helicopter is a marvel of maneuverability in flight. With its omni directional 3 channel remote control and auto-stabilizing rotors, this helicopter provides pinpoint accuracy and responsiveness for precise indoor and outdoor flight! Realistic details such as its flashing multi-colored LED lights complete the experience.
It seems to be nearly impossible to get replacement rotor blades for this chopper. I give the company the benefit of the doubt that they are just behind due to holiday and blizzard- but if i am unable to get spare blades i now have a 100 paper weight.
Word to the wise- be sure when purchasing a chopper that there spare rotor blades are available - other wise you will have some sad kids on your hands after the first good crash.
if i can get new blades- the value rating goes waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay up!!
I liked how the aircraft looks and how easy it was to get setup and flying. However, because it is a helicopter, it is just a matter of time before something breaks. It has been, for me, impossible to find blades or any other replacement parts. I feel, after a half-dozen flights, it is destined for the trash.
Bought mine from a local big box store. Out of the box, it flies great - super stable when it comes to rotation but it needs to be properly "trimmed". It does have (at least) one serious nasty trait. There's a correlation between up-down and rotation. Generally, any adjustments to rotation results in a rapid change to rotor speed causing an unexpected jump in elevation control. This is most frustrating especially when flying in a confined area. Ultimately, it caused several collisions with the ceiling and a rough bump to the floor. Trying to control this exaggerated action is very frustrating as control swings from one extreme to the other. Oddly, as the copter battery begins to exhaust, the problem becomes less severe.
UPDATE: I've discovered the above problem is caused by a hard collision with the ceiling. A sharp blow to the rotor shaft from above causes a misalignment to the gears & motors at the base of the rotor shafts. The lower motor engages BOTH gears causing uncontrollable performance & further gear damage. After realigning the gears/shaft/motor assembly, performance returned to normal. Given the protective chassis & it's "unbreakable" claim, this problem doesn't readily manifest itself.
Still, I find this a most annoying characteristic. Overall, I do find the model enjoyable but it's best flown in a spacious, forgiving area.
Another annoyance is with the combined rotation-forward/back control. This isn't unique to this model. I do wish the manufacturer would put a "trim" adjustment or separate control for forward/back control. If the control was more accurate, it wouldn't be a problem, but as it is, the combined control produces a confusing interaction ending in undesirable results. Again, another reason to fly in an unobstructed area.Read more ›
I was extremely disappointed with the quality of this product as the propellor connector broke off after 5 minutes of flying it, and after having put a spare part on it provided in the package, after flying it for another 2 minutes, the same part broke off again. It is incapable of flying now and it will be thrown into the garbage. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT UNLESS YOU WISH TO THROW OUT $80 FOR FLYING TIME OF 7 MINUTES!!!! WORST PRODUCT EVER EXPERIENCED. BEST BUY SALES REP INDUCED INTO THE PURCHASE BY ADVISING THAT THE HELICOPTER WAS VIRTUALLY UNBREAKABLE. WHAT A GARBAGE PRODUCT.
