5.0 out of 5 stars Simple remote that works
If your door opener can be controlled with a contact closure - and most can - you are in business. Easy to set up and install. The second button the remote can be set up to control a light or a second door (with additional hardware). the remote takes an unusual A23 battery - but both Amazon and Wal-mart sell it for less than a dollar so no problem.

4.0 out of 5 stars Skylink 318TR Garage Door Remote Control - Very Good Product, October 9, 2009

This review is from: Skylink 318TR Garage Door Remote Control (Tools & Home Improvement)
I bought the Skylink 318TR Garage Door Remote Control on October 3, 2009. This was just the product I was looking for. I have an older Stanley Secure Code opener for which I was unable to find a replacement remote that would work. The opener was installed by a previous owner and they did not leave me a working remote. Winter was coming and I wanted get a remote working before the snow season and make my wife happy.

Installation of the Skylink was as simple as could be. Just unplug the opener at the motor, wire the Skylink control wires to the hardwired button in series (along with the original control wires) and plug the Skylink into the outlet. Reconnect the power at the motor and it worked perfectly.

The only problem I had during the install was with the trip path sensors from the original Stanley Opener installation. This had nothing to do with the Skylink. The trip path sensors, since I bought the house were not functioning. Therefore, the hard wired button needed to be depressed for the entire time during the door down cycle. What I found is that the previous owner had incorrectly wired trip path sensors. My point is that to have the Skylink function correctly, the hard wired control button needs to control the up / down with a single push.

Both the remote and receiver appear to well constructed. The receiver is 2 prong (no ground) and is rather large. If it were to be used on a power strip it would most likely cover other receptacles. The flexible 12 inch antenna is permanently attached. The control cable is approximately 12 feet long. Therefore the distance between the power receptacle needs to be about 10 feet or an extension cord will be required. The remote was small and very convenient. I wish the manufacturer included a visor clip. The remote worked from about 75 feet away and I did not test any further distance.

All in all an excellent product and recommended.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bad plastic cover, November 3, 2011
This review is from: Skylink 318TR Garage Door Remote Control (Tools & Home Improvement)
The plastic cover on the transmitter broke when I opened it as the instructions indicated. I contacted the manufacturer with the minor problem and asked that they send a new plastic cover. They insisted I pay $17 for the cover. I asked that they stand behind their product. They explained that their policy was to charge extra. I explained that I would be reviewing the product negatively to reflect the problems if they would not rectify the problem with what appears to be a 2 cent plastic cover. They had me send in documentation before they decided if they would stand behind the product. I did so. I insisted that the owner of the company be informed before I made a negative review. It has been about 2 months. They have failed to rectify the problem. Very sad. They should have just dropped a plastic cover in an envelope instead of arguing and wasting our collective time. It probably would have been cheaper considering the labor time involved in the denial of a quality product or quality service.

5.0 out of 5 stars It just works, like it should., October 29, 2009

I bought this in December 08, and its one of those rare products that simply works exactly like it should, reliably, every time. Its easy to install, its never failed to work properly, and the remote works from much farther away than the Homelink in our Honda Pilot does or the original remote that came with the antique Door Opener. The other nice thing is that if you move, simply remove it and bring it with you and install it into the new house, and there's no need to reprogram your Homelink.

3.0 out of 5 stars good solution, January 6, 2012

This product is an inexpensive solution to a nonfunctioning garage remote control. I had to send the first one back due to it not working, but Amazon made that easy, so that is why they didn't get 4 stars. The second one works fine. This replaces a 318TR I had been using for over 5 years- I was happy with it.

I don't know if this is a secure remote opener, but is has around 1000 different codes so if a pro wants to crack it they will. Just change the factory setting for goodness sake. Your old remote is probably not any more sophisticated, if it is you aren't really considering this anyway.

I like it.

When the more expensive (Clicker) didn't work, I went this route. I have since installed them on 3 different garage doors and they all work flawlessly.

I used this set to replace a built in door opener receiver that failed due to interference from a local military base. It was simple to install and best of all, it works fine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Old Garage Door Opener Remote Control Made Easy, January 31, 2010

This review is from: Skylink 318TR Garage Door Remote Control (Tools & Home Improvement)
I was skeptical at first when I saw this product on Amazon, but decided to take a chance since the opener work well and I only wanted to add the remote control so my wife could park in the garage without needing to get out of the car. This is a great product! It took me less than 15 minutes to install and it works flawlessly. Don't hesitate to get one of these if your old remote system is dead.

The receiver was dead, no light, no nothing, when I received it. This is the second issue I have had with skylink. I am going to try another brand.
