I had a Skylink system, fully customized and built out, in my last home. Using multiple external keypads, sirens, sensors, and a vibration sensor on a window -- the whole system worked flawlessly, except for the alarm sensor. All I wanted was to make sure that if the smoke detector went off in my furnace room, it would trigger the home alarm system.

I tried a dozen times (you'll want earplugs just to try to make it work), set off my smoke detectors repeatedly, and could not get this thing to register a siren at all, even when literally attached to the smoke detector.

Range was not a problem - there was a Skylink door sensor not more than 5 feet away in the same room that worked with 100% reliability. This thing just plain does not sense an alarm going off. Every other Skylink product that people have said "oh, it doesn't work" worked flawlessly for me, but this thing isn't even all that useful as a paperweight. Save your money.

The sensor must be very close to the alarm (<1 inch) to detect the alarm sound and the the adjustable sensitivity has to be set to almost max. But with this sensitivity, it detects sounds from other sources such as door chime.

I've purchased two of these units to use with the Skylink dialer. One is used for a water/flood alert and the other for a security system. Both of them have worked fine picking up the siren/noise and activating the dialer. I have placed each within an inch of the noise making device and on full/high detect, no false pick-up of ambient noises as of yet.
