Product Description

From the Manufacturer

Long Range Door/Window Sensor

Product Description

Monitor multiple doors/windows using a single receiver by connecting additional Skylink Long Range Household Alert Door/Window Sensors. Designed for larger homes, the sensor's long range functionality allows it to signal the receiver (sold separately) from long distances (downstairs front door sensor to upstairs bedroom receiver, for example). When the monitored window or door is opened, the receiver alerts you by flashing and either beeping or sounding the alarm. FEATURES: Notifies you when your door or window is open. Operating range up to 800 feet. Supervised: automatically monitors the sensor and its battery condition. Magnetic type contact sensor. NOTE: Requires the Skylink Household Alert Long Range Receiver HA-434RL (sold separately).

I needed to get this to keep my 16 year old from sneaking out. Works very well and very easy and fast to install. I sleep better at night knowing that the teenager can't open the doors and windows w/o me knowing. I also feel so much better knowing that if someone trying to come in I'll be alerted.
It's nice that it has 3 settings; just the light flashing (good for when you're home and want the doors open), alarm where it sounds only while the door is open (turns off when you shut the door) and alert that doesn't stop until you mute it.
I highly recommend this product for a cheap and easy solution to home security.

It's only been a day, so I will update this review if I run into problems or reliability issues. If you don't see an update, it's because the sensor (and the related receiver) continue to work as expected.

After a couple instances of a side gate in our backyard being left open (either because a member of the family opened it and forgot to close it [never ever me, of course!] or because of a utility person or neighbor kid opening it) I decided I wanted put a stop to it. I have dogs and am looking to adopt a greyhound and do not want to risk a dog escaping due to a gate that's open (and can't be viewed from the house). So, the first solution to come to mind was to simply lock the gate. I wasn't comfortable with this idea, though, because in the event of an emergency it could be challenging to get out of the backyard, also it sounds like kind of a pain (and still, if a member of the family [never ever me!] would open the lock and the gate, there's still no guarantee that they would remember to close and lock it again). This brought me to the idea of a sensor w/ an indicator of some sort that could, at a glance, tell me whether the gate was open or closed.

I looked for a prefab solution for gate monitoring and surprisingly enough, no one markets a system for exterior gates (unless it is part of a pool security system). So, I started looking at full DIY security/alarm systems. Many of these seemed to be able to work, but honestly was far more complex and expensive for my simple need. I finally stumbled onto the skylink monitor system and thought I would give it a shot. I bought this door sensor for my gate and also bought the garage door monitor. Both were programmed and installed in less than 10 minutes.

Works as expected. There is a different beep pattern for each sensor -- a big plus. Easy to set up. I would prefer the sensor came in a less-noticeable color such as white.

It may also deter bad guys from trying to break in. They have been known to knock on doors to see if anyone is home (with the idea of breaking in when nobody answers). When you open the door to ask what the person wants, the door alert will beep. The thief will hear the beeping and know that you have some kind of alarm. It may be enough to keep him from coming back for another try.

When I moved into my first home I noticed both the front & side entry doors were outside of viewing range of the master bedroom (that's upstairs as well). This made it hard to notice when people were at either door. I wanted to find an affordable, yet easy to install electronic alert system to let me know when somebody opens up the screen door on either the front or rear door.

It's a decent size house that's been vacant previously due to a foreclosure and shortly after I moved in I woke up to the sound of some idiot trying to break in by kicking in the front door at 7am. I resolved the vulnerability of that door by installing door jam & hinge bracing from Armor Concepts.

But I still wanted a "heads up" when somebody opens up the outer screen door and after researching online I was thrilled to find this system by SkyLink. I bought the longer range black versions to make sure it picks up from the opposite end of the house (plus the black ones look cooler).

They were pretty easy to setup and they've currently been in use for at least 6 or 7 months and they work great. I haven't had to replace a battery yet. I installed the larger section of the unit (containing the battery) with velcro to make it easier to remove to install a battery. Although I didn't need to, I followed the advice of a previous reviewer and installed an external antenna on the receiving unit.

Now when I'm in the master bedroom which is in a more isolated part of the house, it gives me a simple remote chime to let me know somebody is around and I can even tell which location due to having 4 different zone sounds.

I plan on buying another one later for the garage and I recently bought the motion sensor for the driveway area, but I haven't installed it yet.

This system has a lot going for it. Unfortunately the chime wasn't what I had in mind. I was looking for a system that had a chime to announce a door being opened. With this unit the chime keeps chiming and chiming until the door is closed. I used to have a system that chimed only once when a door was opened and that is what I am looking for. Might try the X-10 system.

Pros: Good range, compact, easy to install, offers a garage door swithc.

Cons: The chime keeps chiming as long as a door is opened not just once.
