...And Skynyrd For All,
By Jon Surginer (Redfield, AR USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Skynyrd Collectybles (Audio CD)
Of the many Lynyrd Skynyrd "greatest hits' packages that have come out over the years, this is the most unique. "Collectybles" offers a complete retrospective of the original unit of this awsome band. From their earliest recordings (when they spelled their name "Lynard Skynard" no less), to "Street Survivors" outtakes, this new double CD shows the tremendous growth of Lynyrd Skynyrd in a short amount of time. Take a listen to the early version of "Free Bird", and then listen to the roaring version from the Fox Theater. The difference is just amazing, and really shows how hard Lynyrd Skynyrd worked over time to really improve thier playing. This collection also includes a radio broadcast performance, including songs from "Second Helping" a full year before the album was recorded (like "Sweet Home Alabama" and "Workin' For MCA"). There are also never before released songs included as well. This album really shows that in a short span of time, Lynyrd Skynyrd not only learned how to be a great rock and roll band, they mastered it.

This Is Skynyrd From the begining to the End,
By Catherine F. Moser (Cincinnati, Ohio United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Skynyrd Collectybles (Audio CD)
This Cd is simply great. It starts off with a very raw version of Free Bird, and ending with one of the best performaces of the song. This Cd has never before heard songs, like "Need All My Friends", "Michelle" ,and "Jacksonville Kid." All these songs show the greatness of Lynyrd Skynyrd. If you are an avid Skynyrd fan it is a must have. But if you are just starting out try "Second Helping" or "Pronounced". This is a great Cd.

could be called Box Set #2....,

When I got the Skynyrd Box Set five years ago, I thought I pretty much had it all. But then Collectybles was released, and for the tracks it has, I think it's excellent. Highlights include: Memphis- Well, I like it alot for an unfinished track; I even think of it as a tribute to Leon, just listen to his bass on the mid-section. Woman of Mine- Also has good bass by Leon, plus great guitar parts. I Never Dreamed- a really good alternate version, perhaps a tad better than the issued take? Jacksonville Kid- Great alternate lyrics; this song should dispel any doubts one has about Steve Gaines. all in all a great compilation.

I just bought the skynyrd collectybles 2 cd set and I was very impressed with the amount of unreleased or rare songs that I haven't even heard of and I am an avid fan of Skynyrd since the mid 70's. I started listening to the first cd and there were three different versions of Freebird and each one was great. I love the songs that I haven't heard before also. There are a lot of great surprises on this 2 cd set . This is a must for the Skynyrd fan. ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL!!!

LYNYRD SKYNYRD BOXED SET II,
By
This review is from: Skynyrd Collectybles (Audio CD)
This set should have been included in the boxed set that MCA released in 1991. What a set to have!! It's a fan's dream come true. The greatest hits CDs should be avoided since many of those songs appear elsewhere more than twice.

Great material from the Greatest Southern Rock Band EVER!,

This compilation provides an insight into the inner workings of one of the greatest rock bands of all time. If you're a Skynyrd fan as I am, this is a must. I bought this one for Ronnie Van Zant's last recording "Jacksonville Kid," but soon began to appreciate the other cool stuff on here. Of course, I can't ever get enough of Free Bird. Everybody tell me, what song is it you want to hear?

The Lynyrd Skynyrd Collection Of All Time,
By "hauper" (Norway) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Skynyrd Collectybles (Audio CD)
Taking about Collectybles - it's a Masterpiece. In my opinion this album represents all what Lynyrd Skynyrd was about; raw, powerful and alive! From the start back in the late 60's and 'til late 70's they were Southern Rock. This album proves it. The mighty ABB never even came close. "Michelle" and "If I'm Wrong" are two songs that I loved the second they started. Other rare songs like "No One Can Take Your Place", "Hide Your Face" and "Bad Boy Blues" shows the variety in style that Skynyrd had in the early beginning of their career. It's a shame it had to end so soon and sudden. If I have to come up with one critical remark about the album, it has to be that "Freebird" is represented three times. I agree that it is one of the best songs Skynyrd have made, but three times is one to much. I guess they will show the improvement of the song over the years, and it really has improved and changed a lot. But don't let this stop you - get your hands on this album, 'coz it's smokin'.

This is a Great Double Disc Cd Package, for Hardcore Skynyrd Fans!!!,
By Gary Covington "Southern Rocker" (Louisiana, U.S.A.) - See all my reviews (TOP 1000 REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)

This includes some great "vintage", songs from the "original" Lynyrd Skynyrd Band. It contains songs from 1968, through their pre-plane crash, glory days, live at the Fox Theater in Altanta. It contains some rarites, plus some of their greatest hits. It includes songs recorded, on radio programs, in studios, and live at the Fox, in Atlanta. This double cd brings back some great memories.
