Biography

The Jackson 5 were one of the most popular disco-pop groups of the 70s, and spawned the massively successful solo career of lead singer Michael Jackson. Jermaine Jackson also enjoyed success as a solo performer, while sister Janet Jackson (who was never a member of the Jackson 5) also became a pop superstar in the 80s.

The five young brothers signed to Motown in 1968, and released their first… Read more in Amazon's Jackson 5 Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Way Under-Rated - It's Really Good, August 1, 2009

This review is from: SKYWRITER [LP VINYL] (Vinyl)
Skywriter lacked the big monster hits in '73 when it came out, coupled with the murmurs that Michael's voice was changing, it didn't sell so well. Despite that, it's cohesive and is full of delightful songs. Best known are its singles, "Corner Of The Sky" (from Pippen) and "Hallelujah Day". But there's plenty more to listen to. "The Boogie Man" is a Halloween classic. "Touch" is a mature sounding and classy ballad; so are "Uppermost" and "Ooh, I'd Love To Be With You". "You Made Me What I Am" is a funky and fun favorite. It's the kind of album you just put on and enjoy the whole thing end to end; no real clunkers in the lot. I definitely recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Reaching For The Sky, May 20, 2010
This review is from: Skywriter (Rstr) (Audio CD)
Skywriter is the last album the band recorded in a traditional r&b style. The title track opens up the album and it's an uplifting, bouncy song. "Hallelujah Day" as the title suggests has a gospel vibe while "The Boogie Man" has a buzzing, funky sound. "Corner Of The Sky" is from the Motown backed Broadway show Pippin and the band delivers it in show tune fashion. "Uppermost" is an interesting and strong song while "You Made Me What I Am" closes the album out on a high note. Stevie Wonder produced a couple of songs on the album and this led the band to recording the backing vocals on his number one hit "You Haven't Done Nothin'".
