5.0 out of 5 stars Way Under-Rated - It's Really Good, August 1, 2009

This review is from: SKYWRITER [LP VINYL] (Vinyl)
Skywriter lacked the big monster hits in '73 when it came out, coupled with the murmurs that Michael's voice was changing, it didn't sell so well. Despite that, it's cohesive and is full of delightful songs. Best known are its singles, "Corner Of The Sky" (from Pippen) and "Hallelujah Day". But there's plenty more to listen to. "The Boogie Man" is a Halloween classic. "Touch" is a mature sounding and classy ballad; so are "Uppermost" and "Ooh, I'd Love To Be With You". "You Made Me What I Am" is a funky and fun favorite. It's the kind of album you just put on and enjoy the whole thing end to end; no real clunkers in the lot. I definitely recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Reaching For The Sky, May 20, 2010
This review is from: Skywriter (Rstr) (Audio CD)
Skywriter is the last album the band recorded in a traditional r&b style. The title track opens up the album and it's an uplifting, bouncy song. "Hallelujah Day" as the title suggests has a gospel vibe while "The Boogie Man" has a buzzing, funky sound. "Corner Of The Sky" is from the Motown backed Broadway show Pippin and the band delivers it in show tune fashion. "Uppermost" is an interesting and strong song while "You Made Me What I Am" closes the album out on a high note. Stevie Wonder produced a couple of songs on the album and this led the band to recording the backing vocals on his number one hit "You Haven't Done Nothin'".

people who only know the hits are missing so much! this album was very artistic, exploring a then-new side of the J5. Michael got to express himself a little more as a young man, no longer a child. definitely not your run-of-the-mill album, this one's a keeper, for sure. they really seemed to enjoy making this album, and i'm glad that i now have it on CD!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Jacksons have never failed me!, March 25, 2009

I remember having this on cassette about 10 years ago. I was always fond of what the they made, but "Skywriter" just had a very different feel to it. It had its warm spells for the most part, but it's truly worth its temperature.

5.0 out of 5 stars It Rules!, June 23, 2004

This song displays pure genius. They have always been so creative and artistic. Michael, the lead of them all, makes this what it is and makes all of their work unforgettable. Check this one out ASAP. You won't regret it.
